About us
Denver Children's Advocacy Center (DCAC) serves children who have been sexually abused, neglected, or traumatized by witnessing violence. DCAC provides friendly, family-supportive services in one central location or close by. Our mission is to: prevent abuse. strengthen families. restore childhood. Our goal is to ensure that every child in Denver and neighboring counties who has been traumatized by sexual abuse, or by witnessing homicide or domestic violence receives immediate, compassionate and effective investigation, assessment and, if needed, mental health treatment. DCAC never charges for its services and we never place time limits on healing.

We had a blast at our biannual staff retreat a few Fridays ago. This time around, the focus of the retreat was team building, so as a staff we had the opportunity to let out our inner child and have some plain fun with one another. We came out of the day as a stronger team and more committed than ever to DCAC’s mission: to prevent abuse, strengthen families and restore childhood. #StaffRetreat #TeamBuilding #InnerChild #StrongerTogether #MissionDriven #PreventAbuse #StrengthenFamilies #RestoreChildhood

We’d like to extend a huge “thank you” to an amazing group of volunteers who have come out a few times already this summer to DCAC for a volunteer day! Dedicated volunteers representing SM Energy Company have done a deep clean of waiting areas, family rooms and therapy rooms, and helped organize toys. They also did some spring cleaning of our campus outdoor space and play areas, touched up paint, and planted flowers.

Help us welcome Jamie, our newest child and family therapist! Jamie is a licensed professional counselor who earned her master’s degree in community and trauma counseling with a specialization in child trauma and play therapy from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. To support each of her clients, Jamie provides developmentally appropriate, trauma-responsive services, drawing from advanced training in play therapy and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. In addition to her work at DCAC, Jamie is passionate about social justice, nature, and rescue dogs. She is also a certified forest therapy guide, using mindfulness and guided sensory invitations to foster meaningful connection to the surrounding environment and communities. #Welcome #NewTeamMember #ChildAndFamilyTherapist #Therapist

Our forensic interviewers have been busy with court testimony. Forensic interviewers often testify in both criminal and county courts, providing information gathered from interviews after a report of neglect or abuse. Interviewers educate and inform juries about the work of child advocacy centers, why forensic interviews are important, and they provide insight into the experience of people involved in the proceedings. Thank you to our incredible forensic interviewers, and all the people who support DCAC and make their jobs possible. #forensicinterviewer #childadvocacycenter

We are pleased to announce that two new interns started with the Rapid Response team last month, Sophia and Elika! Sophia has a bachelors degree in both psychology and criminology, with a minor in wellness. She is building her career in child psychology with a focus on how children experience legal settings. Elika is currently pursuing a degree in Human Development and Family Relations, with a minor in Psychology at UC Denver. She’s interested in learning more about the roles of forensic interviewer and case manager. Please join us in giving Sophia and Elika a warm welcome! #interns #forensicinterviewer #casemanager #childpsychology

Denver Children's Advocacy Center reposted this
This week, our Executive Director Ashley Jellison and Zach Carlson from the Denver Children's Advocacy Center met with Representative Pettersen in Washington, DC to talk about child advocacy centers in Colorado and the coming VOCA cuts. It was great to be able to highlight our CACs' important work in the state, as well as to explore possible solutions to upcoming funding concerns.
