#GenderConversations in this article contends that persistent high maternal mortality rates are driven by numerous factors one of which is negative gender and social norms. We argue that to improve maternal health outcomes including eliminating preventable maternal deaths, a comprehensive approach is necessary including embedding gender and social norms shifting in governmental polices. #MMR #GenderNorms #SocialNorms #GenderEquality #MaternalHealth https://lnkd.in/dSHKv3qx

There is a greater appreciation for social behavioural change (SBC) work rooted in Indigenous people’s experiences, expertise and voices. We want to hear your voices on aspects that make a program decolonial, how you effectively harness Indigenous knowledge to decolonise SBC interventions and constraints that your experience. In this article #GenderConversations contends that though gender norms have been shifting there are those that are sticky. For instance, women’s equal participation in formal education has improved reaching parity in several countries. In political leadership, women’s role has been growing Despite this, the norm regarding women making decisions on tree planting is still sticky, deriving its sustenance on another norm that privileges males over females on land inheritance and ownership. The article makes policy and programmatic recommendations to resolve the issue. #gendernorms #socialnorms #trees #land #genderequality https://lnkd.in/drNw2_aW
Women are not allowed to decide on what trees to plant! A sticky gender norm.

In this article, #GenderConversations contends that working on gender norms transformation is not an either-or job of tackling traits of femininity or masculinity. It depends on how we navigate negative masculinity and harness femininity while addressing obstacles for equity. #feminity #masculinity #genderequality #gendernorms #socialnorms https://lnkd.in/dgXuSPTX
Is there anything like negative femininity in Gender Norms Transformation?

In this article #GenderConversations resurfaces the feminist notion of the “personal is political” arguing that shifting gender norms is a political process, a power issue where resistance is expected. To achieve intended results, the movers must include in their strategy, counter measures to mitigate the push-back. #backlash, #power, #resistance, #genderequality, #rights #gendernorms, #socialnorms.
Changing gender norms is a political process: Expect a power struggle
