About us
EngenderHealth envisions a gender-equal world where all people achieve their sexual and reproductive health and rights. We know that sexual and reproductive health and rights are completely and inextricably intertwined with gender equality. We also know that marginalized groups—such as girls, women, and gender minorities; adolescents and youth; people with disabilities; economically disadvantaged groups; and rural and other hard-to-reach populations—are particularly vulnerable to discriminatory practices that can prevent them from leading healthy lives. But that can change. We believe that if all people are empowered and engaged; and if they live in supportive communities where systems and institutions provide high-quality, gender-equitable sexual and reproductive healthcare; and if policies, laws, and process are supportive, then they will exercise their rights to gender-equitable sexual and reproductive health services and participate as equal members of society.

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate Dr. Alaa Murabit—a global leader transforming women’s health, gender equity, and peacebuilding. At just 21, she founded The Voice of Libyan Women, driving progress on peace, security, and women’s rights. Now, as a UN High-Level Commissioner, she pushes for shifting power and resources to communities—ensuring healthcare access is locally driven and sustainable. Her most recent achievement? Helping to raise $300 million through The Beginnings Fund to expand women’s health resources globally. Dr. Murabit is redefining what it means to invest in women’s health and rights—and we’re proud to honor her legacy today. Learn more: https://loom.ly/8AY80bM

Her leadership has been instrumental in pushing for universal health coverage and ensuring women and girls can make informed choices about their futures. Her work inspires us—and reminds us that the fight for health equity is far from over. Let’s keep pushing for a world where every woman has access to care, without stigma or barriers. 🚨 ICYMI: EngenderHealth and our President & CEO, Traci L. Baird, were featured in The New York Times calling out DOGE's misleading claims about federal savings from USAID cuts. Transparency is key in global health funding. Learn more 👇
𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝒀𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐮𝐭 𝐃𝐎𝐆𝐄’𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐬 We’re proud to see EngenderHealth and our President & CEO, Traci L. Baird, featured in The New York Times in an article by David Fahrenthold, highlighting the importance of accuracy and transparency in federal funding. Recently, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) claimed to have saved $83.6 million by terminating a USAID award to EngenderHealth. However, as Traci Baird explained, this figure was significantly inaccurate. The grant’s ceiling value of $89.8 million was never a guaranteed funding amount—in reality, only $1.2 million had been committed, with just $700,000 in actual savings. This kind of misrepresentation matters. When funding allocations are inaccurately reported, it distorts the public conversation around global health investments and undermines trust in vital nonprofit work. EngenderHealth believes in responsible, equitable, and efficient foreign assistance funding that supports the communities we serve. This Women’s History Month, we honor Dr. Nafis Sadik—a global health leader who transformed the fight for reproductive rights. As the first woman to lead United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), she redefined development by centering women’s health, rights, and choices. Later, as Vice Chair of EngenderHealth’s Board of Directors, she continued pushing for progress. But today, that progress is under attack. The gutting of foreign assistance for global health threatens essential maternal and reproductive health services around the world. We face a pivotal moment—how do we resist? How do we emerge stronger? Dr. Sadik showed us a path: be bold, center women’s voices, and build alliances that transcend borders. Now, more than ever, we must do the same.
