The International Arts + Mind Lab (IAM Lab) is a multidisciplinary research-to-practice initiative from the Pedersen Brain Science Institute at Johns Hopkins University that is accelerating the field of neuroaesthetics. Our mission is to amplify human potential. IAM Lab is pioneering Impact Thinking, a translational research approach designed to solve intractable problems in health, well-being, and learning through the arts. IAM Lab brings together brain scientists and practitioners in architecture, music, and the arts to foster collaboration and research. JHU is launching an initiative to elevate and enhance arts offerings across the university, and to increase awareness of the art already in our midst. This effort is being led by Professor of the Humanities and former President and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Daniel H. Weiss. IAM Lab is thrilled to share the first-ever winners of the Renee Fleming NeuroArts Investigator Awards. Seven basic and applied research projects received the award. Each project includes young collaborators from both the science and arts sectors. Researchers will delve into topics at the crossroads of medicine, the arts and technology to advance the neuroarts field, such as the impact of dance on brainwave patterns, assessing the value of drawing for reducing anxiety, measuring the neurophysiological benefits of live music for people with early Alzheimer's disease, and more.
