Leveling the playing field in tech.
About us
The Kapor Center is building a future where the tech industry makes a positive impact on culture, society and the economy. We manifest the promise of technology by making the field more diverse, inclusive and better equipped to address society’s tough challenges and big opportunities. Right now there’s an unfair system stagnating innovation and hindering success in tech for Black, Latinx and women entrepreneurs. We challenge this system by educating, connecting and investing in those who bring new ideas, voices and innovations to the table, inspired by their own lived experience. The problem of diversity and inclusion in tech is complex and there’s no easy solution. That’s why we take a comprehensive approach to closing the gaps in the leaky tech pipeline by understanding the causes, designing solutions and leading change. Our pioneering work ranges from education and community building to research and investing. And we help others do the same so that the future of our field reflects the experience and diverse genius of our country.

Today, we join other VCs and #tech leaders like Reid Hoffman, Aileen Lee, and Mark Cuban to collectively endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States. Our support for her is rooted in a long history of collaboration, from her time as San Francisco District Attorney to her recent efforts on responsible #AI policy as Vice President. She has consistently championed tech innovation, #STEM education, and digital equity, making her the ideal leader to guide our nation through rapid technological advancements. As President, we believe Vice President Harris will continue to advocate for responsible, ethical, and inclusive AI, while addressing critical societal challenges like climate justice, educational progress, and #healthcare access. At Kapor Capital, we invite fellow #investors and #policymakers to join us in asking, “Who benefits?” from any investment decision. Together, we can close gaps and build a more inclusive tech sector that benefits all Americans. Join us in supporting a brighter, more equitable future for technology and society. #VentureCapital #TechforGood

Honored to be part of this work alongside foundations Ford Foundation Siegel Family Endowment Pivotal Ventures The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation Omidyar Network, U.S. Deputy CTO Deirdre Mulligan. 📣 📣 We’re thrilled to announce new funding from Cognizant, GitLab Foundation, Kapor Foundation (Kapor Center), and Walmart. This support will scale Work Shift’s coverage of AI and economic opportunity, deepening our coverage of how new technologies are reshaping learning and work. You’ve already seen some of this expanded coverage—whether it’s Margaret Moffett digging into the potential reach of ChatGPT Edu or Colleen Connolly reporting on dozens of community colleges building AI programs with a boost from Big Tech. The new funding also has supported the launch of The Cusp, a podcast hosted by Paul Fain and featuring interviews with decision-makers, experts, and innovators at the forefront of how AI is transforming the ways we learn and work. And there’s much more to come as we continue to expand our coverage of #AI and economic #opportunity. It’s hard to get beyond the hype and 30K-foot views of AI’s impact on students and workers, especially people of color and those who are historically underserved. Investments in independent journalism are essential to ensure that these stories are told with depth, accuracy, and integrity—and we can’t wait to continue producing stories that inform conversations and drive meaningful change. We’re grateful for supporters who understand the value of independent, nonpartisan journalism, and who are committed to letting us pursue stories with no agenda other than to find what’s notable and newsworthy. #independentnews #highered #work https://lnkd.in/d4NnwtsG
