The MLK Park in Davenport, Iowa, officially opened on Juneteenth - just south of where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. made his only appearance in the Quad Cities! It started with a vision for a place that told the history of African Americans and fostered a sense of togetherness for the community. And, after 10 years of hard work and raising nearly $1.2 million in funds, FRIENDS OF MLK completed the park. The MidAmerican Energy Foundation was happy to contribute and support this lasting tribute to Dr. King's legacy.

Meet Evie, one of our partner landowners and an advocate for renewable energy! She hosts three of our wind turbines on her 160-acre farm in Iowa. The annual lease payments helped her keep the family farm operable and chip away at farm debt, all while helping to generate clean wind energy for Iowans! Today, we honor Juneteenth, which recognizes the day when federal troops freed the last enslaved people in Texas, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. The MidAmerican Energy Foundation is proud to support Iowa Juneteenth Observance in raising awareness of our history and of the lived experiences of Black people across the country.

Today is Global Wind Day! For 20 years, we have invested in clean, renewable energy generated from our 3,400+ wind turbines across Iowa. In 2023, we paid approximately $47.7 million in property tax payments on our wind turbines spanning 33 counties, providing funding to schools, roads and bridges, county health services and emergency responders. It's no wonder why it's such a breeze to celebrate today! Learn more: https://bit.ly/2VNTXlh

School may be out, but internships are in! Last week, we hosted a three-day intern experience, complete with networking opportunities, tours, panels and volunteer events. Seventy-five MidAmerican interns helped with three different CARES events at the end of the third day - removing weeds and cleaning toys at Conmigo Early Education Center, beautifying the playground at the The Blank Park Zoo and building over 70 bikes for underprivileged students with Variety, the Children's Charity. We are happy to support the future of the energy industry by continuing to host experiences like these! 💪

Today is National Bike to Work Day, and there's no better time to spotlight recent retiree Daniel Smith. He rode his bike to work at our Davenport office - no matter the season - every day for the 40 years that he worked with us. That's over 55,000 miles, which is the equivalent of riding twice around the Earth! Thank you for your contributions and enjoy your well-deserved reTIREment! 🚲

A few weeks ago, our CARES crew joined United Way Quad Cities in a record-breaking volunteer turnout for their annual Day of Caring. Our volunteers got to work, traveling out to the Amowa Forest Preserve in East Moline, Illinois, to remove invasive species for Living Lands & Waters. Their efforts were even featured on KWQC TV-6 News! Check it out: https://bit.ly/3QpnE93
