North Dakota Adjutant General, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Alan Dohrmann relinquished command to U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Mitchell Johnson at a Change of Command Ceremony on Sept. 15. The North Dakota Adjutant General commands the North Dakota National Guard and serves as the Director of Emergency Services, which consists of two divisions: the Division of Homeland Security and the Division of State Radio Communications. North Dakota is once again the hardest-working state in the country! A 2024 Wallethub study ranked North Dakota as the number one hardest-working state based on ten factors such as employment rate and hours worked. North Dakota's employment rate is currently the highest in the U.S. at 98%. While North Dakota topped the list, the study showed that the entire Midwest is full of hard workers, as Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota are third, fourth, and fifth on the list respectively. This month, the Capitol Grounds Planning Commission unanimously approved architectural design development drawings submitted by the State Historical Society of North Dakota and the North Dakota National Guard for a new military gallery addition located on the south side of the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum. Preliminary design plans for the approximately 60,000-square-foot addition include a 20,000-square-foot military gallery, a North Dakota National Guard regimental room also available for rental to the public for events, an expanded food service area, and an outdoor courtyard and amphitheater space.
