"Innovation is not always a structured process,” writes Page Principal + Healthcare Planning Director Mark Vaughan. “Creativity and collaboration thrive in the spontaneity of informal conversations, chance encounters, and the exploration of nature. As academic medical centers continue to push the boundaries of medical knowledge in laboratories and lecture halls, planners and designers should embrace the potential for discovery in unexpected places. “Public and private spaces should contain synapses—intersecting points that can create intentional opportunities for meaningful conversations. These are places people want to go during their normal routines to grab coffee, eat lunch, take a break outside, or walk along a familiar track." Imagine seeking treatment and healing in a state-of-the-art cancer and blood disorder facility surrounded by nature in a wooded setting, and offering a physician-owned, collaborative, and patient-centric approach. These components of compassionate care are why Ashley VanBuskirk is excited about her work at New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) and its new, larger facility. Designed by Page and slated to open in 2025, the new Rock Row Medical & Research campus in Westbrook, Maine, will also provide amenities ranging from restaurants to live music. In our latest Health Partner Insights blog, Ashley shares what brought her to NECS, and what the new facility means for the people of New England who are dealing with cancer-related health issues: https://bit.ly/4bsMOLT #CuratingCare #CancerCare #HealthcareDesign #Architecture #RockRow

As PRIDE month draws to a close, we’re aware that the work on behalf of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual community is ongoing. Our prototype for LGBTQIA+ community health needs is presented in our white paper, “The Prism Wellness and Community Center – A Model for Inclusive Design" authored by Page Principal + Senior Healthcare Planner Hilary Bales, AIA, ACHA, EDAC and Healthcare Planner Elizabeth Ulibarri: https://bit.ly/4cEnNy6 Factors such as violence, social exclusion, and discrimination have created barriers to healthcare access for many in the LGBTQIA+ community. Our model shares Page’s commitment to inclusive design and offers ideas to help break down barriers, reduce stigma, and support healthcare access for all. Please read, share, and let us know in the comments below what concepts from our prototype you find most impactful. #DesignThatMakesLivesBetter #ThinkWhatsPossible #LGBTQIA+ #pride #health #InclusiveDesign

Designing high-rise luxury residential towers that complement, enhance, and respect surrounding communities is a priority for us. At Page, we carefully consider site surroundings, taking note of local historic structures and the character of nearby neighborhoods and integrating features that blend and balance naturally with the existing built environment. Our design at the 35-story, 283-unit Luminary in downtown Austin, showcases that approach: the facade will have a mix of brick and glass, arches will vary in scale to integrate with surroundings, sidewalks will be wide in keeping with the city’s Great Streets plan, 22,000-sf of outdoor space created, and ground-level, covered porches will provide shaded, open-air respite to the public. We’re delighted to collaborate with Northland Living to bring this project to life for Austin. Currently moving through the city's development review process, when built, Urbanspace Real Estate will lead the marketing of these sensational residences. #HighRiseDesign #LuxuryResidential #DesignLed #architecture

Pride month isn't just about rainbow flags and parades; it's a celebration of visibility, acceptance, and progress. In the construction and design community, LGBTQ+ individuals play an integral role in driving innovation, fostering creativity, and pushing boundaries. Here's why LGBTQ+ Pride is crucial within the construction and design industry: 1. Diverse Perspectives Spark Innovation: Inclusion breeds innovation. LGBTQ+ individuals bring diverse perspectives shaped by their unique life experiences. Whether it's reimagining public spaces to be more inclusive or designing buildings that reflect the vibrancy of LGBTQ+ culture, their contributions push boundaries and inspire creativity. 2. Creating Safe and Inclusive Spaces: Just as architects carefully plan every detail of a building to ensure its safety and functionality, creating a welcoming environment for all is essential. Pride initiatives within the construction community promote inclusivity, making workplaces safer and more supportive for everyone. 3. Breaking Down Barriers: Historically, our industry has lacked diversity, but that’s changing rapidly along with the demographics of our society. LGBTQ+ individuals along with other historically underrepresented groups are breaking down these barriers, challenging stereotypes, and paving the way for a more inclusive future. By embracing LGBTQ+ pride, the construction community creates a culture of acceptance where everyone can thrive. 4. Driving Social Change: Architecture and design have the power to shape society. By integrating LGBTQ+ perspectives, designers and architects contribute to broader social change. From designing gender-neutral bathrooms to advocating for affordable housing and healthcare equity, LGBTQ+ individual’s work extends far beyond aesthetics, making a tangible difference in people's lives. 5. Inspiring Future Generations: Visibility matters. When LGBTQ+ professionals are celebrated and respected within the construction and design industry, it sends a powerful message to future generations. By showcasing diverse role models and mentors, we can inspire young LGBTQ+ individuals to pursue careers in architecture, engineering, and construction, ensuring a more diverse and inclusive workforce for years to come. In essence, LGBTQ+ pride is not just a celebration; it's a call to action. It's a reminder that diversity is our greatest strength and that by embracing inclusion, we can build a brighter, more equitable future for all. So, let's raise our rainbow flags high, celebrate our differences, and continue to push the boundaries of design and construction, one project at a time. Think Pride! #EDI #Diversity #PagePride #PCG #LGBTQ+Pride
