📢 Addressing Health Issues Through Entertainment Education: A Success Story from Zambia 🌍 At Population Media Center, we believe in the power of entertainment education to address critical health issues like HIV on a global scale. Our recent program in Zambia, Siñalamba, has proven just how impactful this approach can be. ✨ Did you know? Siñalamba listeners were 1.5 times more likely than non-listeners to discuss HIV-risk with others, such as their partner, spouse, friend, or relatives. This statistic highlights the incredible potential of our programs to foster open and essential conversations about health. By leveraging the power of storytelling, we can break down barriers, reduce stigma, and promote healthier behaviors. Our work in Zambia is just one example of how entertainment education can create real, lasting change. Join us in our mission to use media for a healthier world! 🌍💬 Read more about our impact in #Zambia: https://lnkd.in/gUsDHiDX #PopulationMediaCenter #HealthEducation #HIVAIDS #Zambia #EntertainmentEducation #GlobalHealth #Siñalamba #SocialChange
Why are we here? In Uganda every new 4 cases 3 are teenage girls, Zambia on our Comic Book Road Show the Ministries ask us to start with even younger children to prevent HIV, in many of our other countries gender violence includes not allowing women (wives and daughters) to go get treatment. This can be prevented and still give a quality of life. This is why we create stories that can inform and generate attendance to people's services through entertainment and drive attitudes and behavior change. A 100% developed with local talent, human rights approach. #PutPeopleFirst #PMC #EEE Empathetic Education Entertainment.

🌱 The Environmental Cost of Grass Lawns: A Call for Change 🌱 Traditional grass lawns are more than just a hallmark of American suburbia; they have a significant environmental cost. They consume billions of gallons of water daily, contribute to biodiversity loss, and emit greenhouse gases through maintenance. This outdated norm, rooted in historical status symbols, continues to harm our planet. 🌿 The Solution: Native Plant Lawns 🌿 By replacing grass lawns with native plants, we can conserve water, support biodiversity, and reduce emissions. Native plants are more resilient, require less maintenance, and create habitats for wildlife. This shift not only benefits the environment but also promotes a sustainable future for our communities. 💡 Cultural Transformation Needed 💡 To make this change, we need to challenge long-standing social norms. Communities, education, and media can play a pivotal role in promoting the beauty and benefits of native plant gardens. Let's rethink our lawns and embrace a greener, more sustainable future. 🌍 💚Read More: https://lnkd.in/gQvB7YDn #Sustainability #Biodiversity #ClimateChange #EnvironmentalImpact #NativePlants #WaterConservation #GreenLiving #PopulationMediaCenter #Grass #LawnCare #Gardens Homegrown National Park Population Matters Wild Ones: Native Plants, Natural Landscapes

Agness and Bupe had their first two children back-to-back in 2018 and 2019 without taking any recovery time or allowing Agness to focus on work. According to a misconception in their region, men should keep their wives pregnant as often as possible, so they are not appealing to other men. Unfortunately, myths and misconceptions like this prevent contraceptive use around the world. Agness started to listen to Kwishilya (“Over the Horizon”), a radio show produced by PMC-Zambia with support from USAID. “Listening to the show together made it easier to have a conversation about spacing children using more modern forms of family planning,” said Agness. “Because of the happenings in Kwishilya, there were no misunderstandings. We both had all the information.” Population Media Center has worked in #Zambia since 2018 when The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded PMC $2.6 million to develop and disseminate content targeting behavior change to improve the health of women and children in Zambia. In 2021, USAID extended its support for the two popular PMC-Zambia radio shows, Kwishilya (“Over the Horizon”) and Siñalamba (“Breaking the Barrier”). Today, PMC continues to break barriers and misconceptions, all with entertainment-education, throughout #Zambia. From June 20 to 27, 2024, a PMC international team composed of two from the USA, namely Amy Henderson Ailey (Director of Global Impact Unit at PMC HQ), Mary El-Afandi (Research Associate at PMC HQ), and Sani (a MEL officer from Niger), visited the PMC E country office to support ongoing project activities. During their stay, they provided training on data quality and a survey CTO to enumerators that will be engaged for the WASH endline evaluation. In addition, they provided support for developing the theory of change (TOC) for the DKT new project on SRH, FP, and GBV. In addition, during the week, Amy was able to deliver a presentation on a webinar to the SBC Alliance on storytelling and another day of practical learning sessions for those interested in SBC. As a side business, the trip was useful in meeting different partners and stakeholders to discuss ongoing activities and future collaboration. Thus, the team was able to meet different people in different offices, particularly Ms. Tsion, Mr. Kinfe and Meron (SC NORAD), Mr. Dawar, the CD (DKT), Ms. Rachana Sharma (UNICEF SBC Manager), ,and the VSO management team led by Mr. Temesgen Tilahun. With this intensive field trip, PMC E has gained a lot in terms of sharing experiences and strengthening networks with its partner organizations.
