Stop giving Meta all your money! Let me explain… I recently had a chat with Robert Sherman, the Co-founder & CMO of Iron Neck. Not only is he a Retention.com customer (scraping as much revenue as possible from their emails), but they also offer a pretty unique product. If you’re unfamiliar with Iron Neck, they specialize in producing products focused on strength and rehabilitation, specifically targeting neck and spine health. During our chat, we dove into the challenges of marketing a high-consideration, high-AOV product like theirs. The reality is that customers shopping for a high AOV product take much longer for that purchase because of the consideration and education phase. Which can sometimes last 12 months or longer. That’s a really long time in the e-commerce world. How can you market a product like that effectively, optimize your advertising spend and at the same time reduce your reliance on platforms like Meta while still driving strong sales? Imagine the impact if you could shorten that purchasing timeline from 12 months to just 5 months—it would be a game-changer. So, outside of just throwing more budget at Meta, how can they encourage customers to make that purchase sooner? Here are 3 ideas that brands that come to mind: - Be smart about your acquisition channels: Ricky Joshi, Co-founder of Saatva, one of our customers, shares their exact strategies on how they scaled their $400M DTC luxury mattress brand in a podcast (linked in comments). Mattresses usually have a longer consideration window. Understanding when your prospective buyers are in-market and incorporating this timing into your acquisition strategy can be a game-changer for driving growth. Saatva has mastered this approach—and their success speaks for itself. - Affiliate Marketing: Partner with athletes, celebrities, or influencers who resonate with your audience. Their endorsement can lead to increased sales. Shoutout to my good friend Aaron Paul, Founder of Paul St. who’s crushing it in that space for brands right now. - Urgency Tactics: Create a sense of urgency with limited-time offers or exclusive promotions. This can motivate customers to act quickly rather than putting off their purchase and missing out on the offer. A great example of this is one of our recent customers, Fabletics. We’ve all seen how viral their VIP program is, and it’s no accident. By expertly using FOMO, they’ve mastered the art of urgency-driven marketing—and it’s pure genius, in my opinion. - Reduce Perceived Barriers to Purchase: Implement first-time buyer programs, VIP access deals, or money-back guarantees to make the buying process smoother and less intimidating. The journey to optimizing their marketing strategy is never easy. And I can’t wait to see how Iron Neck continues to innovate in this space. What strategies have you found effective in reducing the customer purchasing timeline?

What Are Top Agencies and Brands Doing NOW to Win BIG During BFCM? 🏆 Here are the 3 key levers all top agencies and brands are focusing on to crush it this BFCM: Large Email Database + Strong Deliverability + Epic Offer Get all three right, and you’ll see exponential growth. Miss one, and your results will suffer. Let’s break it down: 1. Large Email Database Now is the time to grow your list. 🚀 In September and October, run your PPC campaigns at break-even to capture as many emails as possible. CPMs are the best they’ll be this Q4. If your brand is big enough, integrate with Retention.com for an extra boost. Re-engage your list by sending regular emails and trimming unengaged profiles. This will help you identify active subscribers and maximize your reach when BFCM hits. 2. Strong Deliverability Nothing’s worse than having a huge email list and seeing your emails land in spam on the first day of BFCM. 🛑 To avoid that: - Gradually ramp up email sending volume leading into November. - Run giveaways, early BFCM registrations, or promos to drive engagement. - Track deliverability using Google Postmaster (or integrate it into your Omnisend account for easier tracking). 3. Epic Offer BFCM isn’t the time to experiment. 🎯 Test your offers in advance on Back to School, Prime Day, and Halloween to find what works best for your brand. If you missed the chance to test, go with what worked before or keep it simple with a % discount. Sometimes simple is best. Still don’t have your BFCM / Q4 strategy locked in? 🗓️ Let’s chat and make sure you’re ready to maximize your results this holiday season! DM me for more info.

Genuine conversations can open doors where there were previously only walls. Let me explain… One of the brands I love is DRMTLGY - a medical-grade skincare company based in Los Angeles. And I’m not alone in this. They’ve grown to an impressive $15M in annual revenue in a short period of time thanks to great products and great marketing. FLASHBACK 8 MONTHS I had the opportunity to hang out with the man behind the marketing, CMO Phil Yee, at a Kings game in LA earlier this year. *Shoutout to the GOAT, Mike Garcia for organizing awesome events in LA around Clippers/Lakers/Kings/Dodgers games for the ecom space.* We weren’t complete strangers since DRMTLGY’s had previously been a customer a few years back but eventually moved on. We were a different company back then and I would have loved nothing more than to get them back on board and show them how we've improved. Especially since we’ve had significant success with brands similar to theirs in the space. (and personally I use and love their brand... and yes, I do have a skincare routine). It was at the game where things changed. With Phil and I both having that deep-rooted love for everything marketing, we found common ground and started chatting about industry trends. During our convo, I had the chance to ask Phil how DRMTLGY has been able to grow so quickly and what had been working for them marketing-wise. This opened the door for him to candidly ask about what he'd heard regarding Retention.com and how we've changed since they had used us last. FAST FORWARD TO NOW DRMTLGY is once again part of the Retention.com team. We're helping drive more value from their email marketing program through identity resolution and their overall retention marketing program. TAKEAWAY: 1 - Nothing beats an in person conversation when it comes solving the needs of a business It's so easy to get into a comfy routine in your home office where everything you do in a day is through your computer or phone. But we all need to go back to the basics now and then. Go to that event you were thinking about. Accept the invite to that dinner you were invited to. Grab that ticket to the game you we asked to attend. You never know what refreshing, genuine conversation you could end up having and how it could impact your business for the better. My interaction with Phil did two things: 1 - It deepened my appreciation for him and the DRMTLGY brand 2- It reminded me the importance of open dialogue and building relationships in business, beyond just sales presentations and demos. What are your thoughts on the significance of genuine connections?

Sometimes you just need the right person that cares. Last week, I had the chance to sit down with Baron Davis—2x NBA All Star, entrepreneur, and all-around creative mind — to chat about his partnership in our upcoming Retox Retreat. The conversation wasn’t just about business - It was about finding purpose - Connecting with the right people - And why brands today need to do more than just sell a product Baron said something that really stuck with me: "Sometimes you just need the right person that cares." In a world where we’re all hustling, trying to innovate, and keep our heads above water, it’s easy to forget the real magic happens when you find those connections that push you forward. Whether it’s a partner, a mentor, or a customer, those relationships matter the MOST. This is what Baron loved about his time at our last Retox Retreat as a keynote speaker, and why he wanted to go even bigger this time around. The chance to meet "cool brands and cool entrepreneurs" who are doing things differently in the health and wellness space. It’s about building something that resonates with people. "Health is wealth," he reminded me. And in today’s world, brands that understand this aren’t just selling products, they’re offering something deeper: "Solutions that improve lives, bodies, and minds." What really stood out in our conversation was the way Baron described the retreat atmosphere. "You can have peace, tranquility, and be fulfilled—all in the same place," he said. This isn’t just a rah-rah event where people are shouting about their successes from the rooftops. It’s about "connecting for all the right reasons with all the right intentions." That’s a rare thing in this fast-paced world of business, but it’s exactly what so many of us are craving right now. TAKEAWAY: Retox Retreat isn’t your typical conference. - It’s a combination of almost like a day off which you were still on. - You can't find that in the company retreat. - You can't find that in a vacation retreat. Kick off your day with a B12 shot, take an ice bath, or treat yourself to a facial, then sit down for a roundtable discussion with like-minded DTC founders and operators. It’s a place where you can "improve your brain, your body, and your business." You’re not just hearing from keynote speakers like Baron; you’re actively engaging with people who genuinely... Care. About. Your. Success. The retreat will feature the BIG roundtables where you can spend quality time with the host, Baron Davis, along with other brand founders and operators, engaging in deep, meaningful conversations about how to scale, pivot, and innovate. It’s about breaking down barriers and creating authentic relationships - something every e-commerce brand needs to succeed in today’s landscape. If you’re in the e-comm space, the Retox Retreat is an event you can’t afford to miss. Oct 30th. This is invite only. DM me or comment Retox Retreat for an invite link. See you there.
