In Estonian maritime affairs, there are indeed interesting times – on one hand, there are several challenges arising from the economic environment, and on the other hand, there are future projects with great potential. Port of Tallinn, in cooperation with the Kliimaministeerium / Ministry of Climate of Estonia, German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania (AHK) and HHLA TK Estonia AS, organized an upbeat and inspiring Maritime and Logistics Day on April 30th at Port of Muuga, where the current state and future of the industry were discussed by: 🔵 Minister of Climate - Kristen Michal 🔵 Deputy Secretary General for Maritime and Water Affairs - Kaupo Läänerand 🔵 CEO of the FERNRIDE - Martin Isik 🔵 CEO of the Finnish Ports Association - Suomen Satamat ry - Piia Karjalainen 🔵 CEO of HHLA TK Estonia - Riia Sillave 🔵 CEO of Rail Baltic Estonia - Anvar Salomets 🔵 Member of the Management Board of Port of Tallinn - Margus Vihman My main observations and thoughts, which I took away from the visionary day from the engaging presenters: 🔵⚫⚪ Estonia is too small for everyone to do their own thing. To achieve a better future, we need to stick together. Companies in the logistics sector, regardless of the mode of transport and business focus, are participants in a comprehensive supply chain, and together, we can deal with challenges affecting the sector. 🔵⚫⚪ Digitalization and automation. It's nice to see that the future is here. There's an air of innovation at Muuga Port. I personally became convinced. There is an extremely great potential for future customers (including Rail Baltica freight owners) and a breeding ground for technology companies. Our strength lies in an open mindset and less bureaucracy compared to old Europe. 🔵⚫⚪Everyone is waiting for Rail Baltica, and the logistics sector is ready to organize our construction logistics. Before the tracks reach Muuga, a complex logistical operation is needed to ensure that construction materials reach the construction site sustainably, safely, and environmentally friendly. Separately, I would like to thank Andres Uusoja, who moderated the entire day and organized a inspiring tour. The show must go on! #RailBaltic #RailBalticEstonia #tulevikonrongs

Last 10 months have been intense, but the result is outstanding. Today we published the transportation roadmap for Estonia which aim is to significantly reduce the GHG of the sector. Roadmap analyses the movement of people and cargo on all four transportation modes (road, rail, sea and air), analyses the current situation and challenges, provides a visionary outlook for 2040 and describes the needed changes to be done. Green transition is possible, but it it requires strategic cooperation between the government and the sector. Big applause once again to the core team Kadi Jette Tamjärv, Kai Peet, Kersten Kattai, Kaur Sarv, Guldar Kivro, Kalvi Nõu, Olavi Grünvald and all the 60+ major transport sector companies, associations/clusters and university experts, who have actively participated in the discussions! With many either already there or currently en route to Brussels for #ConnectingEurope, we would like to share one last highlight as part of the North Sea Commission countdown to the event. Today's highlight comes to us from Örebro kommun 🇸🇪 Many regions, as well as the national Swedish and Norwegian government, worked incredibly hard to include the Oslo-Stockholm connection in the ScanMed corridor during the TEN-T revisions. This connection bridges two capitals and has the potential to significantly decrease travel time, which would incentivise rail travel and offer a strong alternative to flying. While a preliminary agreement was reached on the inclusion of this connection, there are still gaps regarding urban nodes, terminals and ports. A CEF application is currently in its final stages in order to further investigate both the section between Örebro and Kristinehamn and to look at rail travel across the border between Sweden and Norway more substantively. 📸: Uudenmaan kiertotalouslaakso / Helsinki-Uusimaa Circular Valley #TEN_T #RailTransport #NorthSea #BalticSea Regional utveckling i Örebro län

🚢 Ports of Stockholm, in collaboration with the RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Torghatten, Zeabuz, DNV, and Vattenbussen, are pioneering the future of urban maritime transport with the "Policy Lab Urban Zjöfart" project. This innovative initiative focuses on the safety and feasibility of autonomous ferries in Stockholm. 📅 This project leverages a real-world case study in Riddarfjärden to gather crucial data on the transition from manned to autonomous ferries. It aims to improve the frequency and punctuality of ferry services, benefiting travelers, particularly cyclists and pedestrians. 🔍 The role of Ports of Stockholm is central to this project, collaborating on the testing and development of safety protocols. The findings will contribute to ongoing international policy discussions by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), positioning Stockholm as a leader in maritime innovation and sustainability. 🌍 This initiative not only aims to revolutionize urban mobility in Stockholm but also to enhance its regulatory and commercial standing in the global maritime industry. By developing safe and efficient autonomous ferry services, Stockholm Ports is setting a new standard for sustainable urban transport. 🔗 For more information you can take a look at SOM-INN PORT’s Observatory through the following link: https://lnkd.in/dbRGrnN8 SOM-INN PORT <> Port Tarragona

CALL FOR PAPERS Association for European Transport (AET) 18 – 20 September 2024 Antwerp, Belgium Deadline 09 February 2024 Planning for Sustainable Land Use and Transport Topics #etcAntwerp2024 This stream provides a home for issues at the leading edge of policy development at the interface between land-use and transport planning. Its focus is on sustainable solutions to land-use and transport problems and how to measure and evaluate their effectiveness and impact. We invite you to submit abstracts for papers within the broad spectrum of sustainable land use and transport. In recent years we have seen a shift in the context in which we are operating, due to the growing impact of and attention for climate change and the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. We have also entered an energy crisis and increased issues with inequality along the lines of wealth, gender, ethnicity or capabilities. All of these developments require us to think about how different the future will need to be, given that “business as usual” may no longer be an option. For the 2024 conference, we have identified seven areas of interest that we are especially interested in for exchange of knowledge and discussion. · Climate change emergency · Integrated land-use and transport planning · Ensuring mobility under deep uncertainty · Cities and transport · Travel behaviour · Equity in transport · Planning for wellbeing For full details on these topics https://lnkd.in/e63CCpVg The committee encourages the debate on the integration of transport and land-use planning through interesting research results and examples of good practice. This debate can be nourished by papers on finished work as well as work in progress, as there are things to learn in every phase of a project. We aim to be a forum for professional dialogue. We are happy to offer delegates the opportunity to introduce a specific question, problem or dilemma, on which the speaker and the audience can then reflect together. We are also open to proposals for special sessions. Please indicate in your abstract if you would like to opt for one of these formats or contact the committee chair to discuss. For all types of papers, the committee emphasises the added value of drawing out the policy relevance. In 2024, we will have the pleasure to present the author of the best paper in our stream with the Planning for Sustainable Land Use Award, sponsored by Goudappel.
