Would you say YES to the Y? I did. ✋ You would, too, if you check out the YMCA of Hamilton|Burlington|Brantford's new strategic plan for 2024-28. At the board table, we call it the YES strategy. The focus? Youth, Employees and Seniors. YES! For a charity serving communities across three municipalities, strong internal capability (employees) is essential to meet the needs of a broad spectrum of people, from youth (under 30) to older adults (seniors). This plan was a year in the making, with board members, senior staff, employees and community partners engaged at different points during the process. For the past 2-3 years, many organizations have had to put a pause on long-term plans and focus on the immediate COVID-19 crisis in front of them. That's why this strategic plan is a point of pride for the Y of HBB; it's the first fulsome strategic plan as the organization recovers and rebuilds from the pandemic. So, do say YES to the Y. ⬇
We’re thrilled to share Igniting Potential to Save Lives – our new Strategic Plan that will guide our YMCA over the next five years. Read on to learn more about our visionary roadmap designed to ignite potential in the lives of young people, our employees and seniors. Responding to rising crime, Chicago's civic leaders, including Hyatt Hotels, have stepped up efforts to curb violence through a $66M 'Scaling Community Violence Intervention' campaign. With backing from the Pritzker Foundation and Crown Family, the initiative is set to enhance existing grassroots programs over the next decade. The hospitality industry has a vested interest in supporting safer cities. As demonstrated by Hyatt, businesses can make an impact through social responsibility efforts addressing localized needs. Wise investors seeking a return on investment (ROI) understand that community health is directly tied to economic health. Collaborative efforts like these underscore the power of public-private partnerships to drive progressive change. Chicago sets an example for other cities struggling with violence, encouraging them to pursue coordinated action plans backed by unified funding. #socialimpact #csr #community

New Jersey Community Development Corporation (NJCDC), Veteran Housing Corp would ask three questions about your housing projects: 1. How much funding, federal tax credits, or government benefits or incentives from all government sources did the projects receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? 3. What guarantees exist that tenants will not be displaced after the "affordability period expires? Every local, state, and federal housing authority should adopt the State of Vermont's "permanent affordability" policy as a model for all future government funded or subsidized housing projects or developments, no exceptions! https://lnkd.in/eFEUC8c8

#CoopFortnight celebrates how co-operatives offer an altogether different way to do business. Meet Homebaked Community Land Trust in Liverpool, set up by a group of Anfield and Everton locals who came together in response to failed top-down regeneration. 🤝 They’re behind an ambitious multi-use community property development project – and their other great work includes putting on community events and supporting local businesses and start-ups that address local needs. 🏚️ They’ve also embarked upon another ambitious project, The Cosy Homes Club, which aims to empower local people to ‘retrofit’ their homes to make them more comfortable and cheaper to run. 💡 “It’s about energy efficiency for all,” said Zero Carbon Neighbourhoods Project Lead Rachael Branton. “We’re investigating how we can achieve an efficient roll out of whole-house retrofit in Anfield and Everton, in a way that doesn’t leave anyone behind.” 💻 To that end, Homebaked CLT has been conducting research and has held training, talks and workshops on subjects including carbon literacy and DIY draft excluding. 🙋 “We’re working towards building a group of people in the area who have the knowledge and enthusiasm to work together to create change in their housing. It needs to come from the people in the area – we are aiming to create the conditions that allow people to do that.” ✊ Want to see more grassroots community empowerment like this?
