Today, on #WorldMalariaDay, we are reminded that the fight against malaria continues for millions of people around the world. Malaria is endemic in West Africa and is one of the region's leading causes of death. With the support of The Endeavour Foundation, we have set ambitious targets to reduce malaria by 2024, including: ✅ Launching prevention campaigns at all our sites ✅ Initiating a pilot malaria community health programme at our Ity mine with the Ivorian Ministry of Health ✅ Aiming to reduce the malaria incidence rate to 300 cases per 1,000 employees. Their testimonies show how our malaria prevention efforts are changing behaviour and having a tangible impact. #WorldMalariaDay #EndMalaria #Foundation

This is not just one story (like Ismael's) {https://lnkd.in/eQkvZYNg}, it is one among the millions of such stories across the malaria-endemic countries. For the last 25 years, MMV has touched millions of lives and made its own story by saving 15.4 million lives with 15 new antimalarials. Today, on World Malaria Day, MMV is rewriting the future story with renewed commitment by unveiling a new 2024-2030 strategy with the vision of a world free from the threat of malaria. Ismaël, a 4-year-old boy from Tchaloudè, Togo, has fallen ill with #malaria several times. According to his mother, Foussena, when he’s ill, he is unable to do anything, suffering from fever and headaches. Seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) protects children like Ismaël and his baby sister in endemic settings during the rainy season when malaria transmission rates are at their highest. MMV and partners, including Catholic Relief Services and Malaria Consortium, have been supporting national malaria control programmes in rolling out SMC campaigns with great success. Some 200,000 African children were treated with at least one dose of SMC in 2012, whereas SMC reached over 53 million children in 2023. Expanding access to this preventive medicine will save more lives and allow communities like Tchaloudè to dream of a malaria-free future. Watch our film to see how collaborative efforts and medical advancements around SMC are impacting the lives of children in malaria-endemic settings: bit.ly/MMV-SMC-Togo #WorldMalariaDay #EndMalaria

#DidYouKnow that national #malaria scorecards are crucial tools for partners, including End Malaria Councils and Funds in the battle against malaria? Insights from these scorecards guide partners in advocating for and mobilizing resources toward national malaria control programs or specific areas needing intervention. In 2023, gaps identified in Eswatini's #malaria scorecard regarding treatment and indoor residual spraying (IRS) coverage prompted action from End Malaria Fund Eswatini. The fund stepped in by supporting the National Malaria Program with the purchase of antimalarials totaling $21,575 and assisting with vehicle maintenance to improve IRS coverage. These measures significantly increased IRS coverage to 93% and ensured consistent treatment for severe malaria cases. Learn more about Eswatini's malaria scorecard: https://bit.ly/48vyNf3 #endmalaria

Today is National Mosquito Day, a day that highlights the impact of mosquitoes on public health and ecosystems. One of the most pressing concerns related to mosquitoes is malaria, a life-threatening disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes. Malaria disproportionately affects African countries, particularly those in sub-Saharan Africa, where the majority of malaria cases and deaths occur. It is crucial to raise awareness about the prevalence of malaria in these regions and to support efforts aimed at prevention, treatment, and research. There are various ways to help, such as supporting organizations that provide mosquito nets, promoting community education about malaria prevention, and advocating for increased access to healthcare resources in affected areas. On this day, let's come together to recognize the challenges posed by mosquito-borne diseases like malaria in African countries and take meaningful actions to support those in need.
