In an interview with FKG, our Program Director Hans Pohl shared how Future Mobility connects Swedish companies with key players in the US automotive industry. From Silicon Valley to Gothenburg, we’re fostering cross-Atlantic partnerships to drive innovation in electrification, automation, and vehicle sharing. From the article: "Through Future Mobility, companies and other actors who want to start collaborations with American industry colleagues can apply for funds from Vinnova for one-year strategic projects, up to SEK 500,000 per project. However, companies are required to match that amount themselves. But the point of Future Mobility is not only to contribute money. According to Program Director Hans Pohl, it is just as much about the matchmaking itself—finding partners on both sides of the Atlantic who can work together. 'In several of the collaborations we helped match, they haven’t applied for any funding at all,' he says." The largest tech company in Europe, ASML, nearly left the Netherlands due to the rise of an extreme right-wing party in the recent election. These companies heavily rely on expats - essentially skilled migrants - to operate effectively. Historically, the Netherlands has always been a welcoming country for migrants, a key factor in its economic prosperity. History has repeatedly shown that inclusivity fuels growth and innovation. However, the rise of far-right movements globally threatens this prosperity. Although ASML decided to stay this time, this recent situation is a stark reminder that inclusivity is not just a "nice to have" or a flashy PR campaign - it is fundamental to sustained economic and social prosperity.

✨ Did you know Gothenburg is the "Master of collaboration"?✨   Because we are perfectly positioned by the sea, international trade has been a natural part of our development, and interacting with others has fostered a culture of openness and collaboration.   Since back in the days, we have developed and fine-tuned our collaborative skills, and now we're actually killing it. International visitors coming to check out smart technical solutions are often more interested in how we solved it together rather than in the solution itself.   We also have three special initiatives that I must tell you about: 🍀 A new community and innovation cluster is being built by the newly formed Steptura in collaboration with Volvo Cars and the City of Gothenburg. It will be a meeting place for collaboration with the goal of developing tomorrow's sustainable innovations. A new name is also on the way... 🍀 Volvo Group and Daimler Trucks, two of the world's largest truck manufacturers, are jointly starting a company with its HQ in Gothenburg to develop a common hardware and software platform for heavy trucks. 🌸 Gothenburg is the Purple Flag City of the Year 2024! A collaborative effort to create a better and safer city. Congratulations to us!   In addition, these collaborations are also happening here: 🚍 Gothenburg Green City Zone, a testbed where future transport systems are tested and developed 🏚 Gothenburg's platform for climate-neutral construction with the goal of reducing the construction and real estate industry's climate impact. This includes the initiative Handslaget to increase circularity. "Hamburg shows: ridepooling can enhance the overall public transport system by adding a component that makes it more attractive.” MOIA Director of Business Development Rainer Becker discussed with Martin Bill, Staatsrat BVM Hamburg, Raimund Brodehl, Managing Director hvv, and Cornelius Kiermasch, Head of Shared Mobility at Deutsche Bahn Connect, on the topic of ‘Best practices from Hamburg: Integrated everyday mobility – the plans of the city of Hamburg' at the international trade fair for transport technology InnoTrans.   Here are three takeaways: ➡️ Ridepooling can be an addition to the public transit network that encourages more people to join the overall system as it adds a component of comfort, convenience, and safety. ➡️ The public transport system can only be successful in jointly addressing mobility needs. ➡️ Digitization of the overall system is needed to make it easy to use and will be the key for more people to use public transport in their daily life.  #InnoTrans2024
