What's Up on the We(s)t Coast?: New mandatory energy and carbon reporting for commercial building in Vancouver The City of Vancouver is implementing the first phase of a multi-year initiative to address the energy and carbon of large existing commercial and multi-family buildings in #Vancouver. Building owners and/or managers need to submit an annual report of their property’s energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) use characteristics, and the City will expand the size and type of buildings subject to the requirements over the coming years. Hear from Damian Stathonikos, BOMA BC's President, about the City's regulation, the role that BOMA BC played in advocating for its members and the resources it is creating to support buildings impacted by the regulation. Did you know the District Energy system at Lakeview Village will be the first of its kind in Ontario and the largest in Canada? “Unlike traditional heating and cooling systems, which are large contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, district energy systems use a network of pipes to heat and cool an entire community from a centralized location. These systems allow for a combination of generation assets that work seamlessly together to improve efficiency, consume less energy and reduce emissions. They are also more reliable and resilient than traditional systems.” 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gJJz9dGA #MyLakeviewVillage #Mississauga #SustainableEnergy #DistrictEnergy #CommunityDevelopment #GreenFuture City of Mississauga Region of Peel Enwave Energy Corporation Lakeview Community Partners Limited: TACC Construction Ltd. | Greenpark Group | CCI | Branthaven | Argo Development Corporation

Across the globe, #Utilities and councils face unique challenges. How do they differ from #Australia to #NewZealand? 💭 We recently announced our work with Cairns Regional Council to modernize their water distribution system. Bruce Kain, Itron's local industry expert, discusses the collaboration with Energy Magazine and shares the Itron solutions Cairns Regional Council is leveraging to achieve their #Water modernization goals. Bruce also highlights what the water #Utility market looks like in Australia and New Zealand. "In a country like Australia, where we have very sparse regional areas combined with really dense urban centres around the coastline, utilities have the challenge of managing both rural parts of their #Network as well as major cities. Choosing solutions that give them the option to have different #Technologies, for different parts of their region is paramount," said Bruce Kain. https://bit.ly/46jsko1

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and city officials have announced plans for the city's inaugural solar neighborhoods, with construction set to commence in the spring. The solar fields, located at Gratiot-Findlay, Van Dyke-Lynch, and State Fair, aim to generate 21 megawatts of renewable energy to power 127 municipal buildings. The initiative will also incorporate community gardens and food production beneath the solar panels in two neighborhoods. While the project has garnered support for its environmental goals, some residents have raised concerns regarding its impact on land use and open spaces in historically disinvested areas. Mayor Duggan said the selection process for the neighborhoods was conducted with community input, ensuring that no owner-occupied homes would be affected. 📢 Tanya Plibersek approves the $4.8bn HumeLink project to build 365km of transmission lines, connecting Snowy Hydro Limited 2.0 to deliver 3GW of renewable energy storage for 3mill homes. 📢 🌲 Community concerns mount as Transgrid’s overhead transmission lines face criticism for environmental and fire risks, despite rerouting and inquiries rejecting underground alternatives as too expensive. 🌲 🔌 Bill Kingwill, chairman of the Humelink Action Group, calls for underground lines, arguing that “overhead powerlines are 100-year-old technology” and outdated for modern energy projects. 🔌 🚧 Snowy Valleys Council Mayor Julia Ham seeks increased community funds, emphasizing the need for enhanced roads and amenities to support areas impacted by the HumeLink project. 🚧 🌍 The federal government pledges limits on land clearing to protect hollow-bearing trees and threatened species, while most new lines stay within existing corridors. 🌍

In safe hands - as its now National Energy Saving Week, we thought we'd share how we helped Cruden Homes get a clean heat network up and running at one of Scotland's most sustainable developments Showcasing the successful implementation of a ground source heat network at Barnton – a 48-plot housing development near Edinburgh. The upfront capital cost of installing clean heat is a key consideration for developers. We constructed a funded model, taking on 60% of the capital expenditure and ensuring the project was commercially and technically viable. Key outcomes: 💰 60% capital cost savings for the developer 🌎 Approximately 80% reduction in carbon emissions against a similar gas system 💸 Competitive, fixed-rate tariff for consumers 📉 Low running and maintenance costs We help developers find cost-effective, sustainable solutions for their developments. To find out how we can help you contact Energetics for projects in the North of England, North Wales and Scotland and UKPS for projects in the South and South Wales. #MultiUtilities #NetZero #HeatNetworks

Some great footage of the ambient heat network (AHN) that Rendesco delivered for Cruden Group nr Edinburgh, working in partnership with Energetics and funded by Last Mile. Working alongside Energetics and UKPS, Rendesco can provide heat network connections, both ambient heat networks and centralised ground source heat networks, to create a multi utility connection offer to developers that is unrivaled in the market. These networks are the key for housing developments under the Future Homes Standard, slashing ongoing operational carbon emissions, and with the funding provided by Last Mile the barrier to entry is removed for developers looking for the alternative to boilers or ASHPs. #multiutility #heatnetworks #futurehomesstandard #GSHP

We’re pleased to share progress on retrofit project carried out in partnership with Platform Housing Group. To date we’ve transformed over 200 homes in Lincolnshire by installing air source heat pumps, solar panels, and insulation upgrades, making homes warmer, greener, and more energy-efficient. Residents have shared how much warmer and more comfortable their homes now feel, especially during the colder weather. Their positive feedback highlights the significant impact of this project, and we look forward to expanding into Leicestershire in the coming months as we continue to support the Midlands Net Zero Hub and Platform’s net zero goals. #EnergyEfficiency #Retrofit #NetZero #SHDF #SocialHousingDecarbonisationFund #WarmHomesSocialHousingFund
