Hub ONE supports the Trust Based Philanthropy model and believes in the power of this new approach to transform the way change happens for our communities. There has been a lot of recent conversation around this model. Here's our take: Trust-based philanthropy upturns traditional ideas around accountability through intentional, authentic relationship-building between funder and grantee partners. Within this new dynamic of reciprocity and mutual accountability, funders come to understand and value the lived experience of grantees. Both parties actively participate in setting goals and assessing progress, with the funder listening to how grantees define and measure their own success over time. The result? So, yesterday did something new and went litter picking with a fabulous community group in my area called Rubbish Friends (great name isn’t it? 🤣) It’s so sad that volunteer groups have to be put together to tackle this huge problem - there’s certainly not enough help from government any more to keep our towns beautiful, but what an amazing bunch of people they were! Hard-working, determined to look after our planet, and friendly we had a fabulous couple of hours armed with bags, gloves, hi-vis and litter sticks. We chatted, we competed to see who could find the funniest piece of litter (a man who found a hymalayan salt lamp was declared the winner!) and we tidied up 25 bags of recycling, and sadly a fair few bags of landfill too. I’m astounded by the amount of vaping equipment that gets thrown away. I was completely blown away by the coming together of people from different walks of life to solve this problem together. It really works and it feels great too! 💪🏻 We are available this week for all charities, non-profits and social enterprises to get together with us, to solve any problem you are facing. From better systems, to working practices, learning new ideas or updating old ones. We want to help you! Redwood Credit Union (RCU) has a rich history and a wide-reaching impact in its community. Here are some fun and interesting facts about Redwood Credit Union: Community Reach and Size: Redwood Credit Union serves over 415,000 members across several counties including Sonoma, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, Mendocino, Lake, Contra Costa, and Solano. As of July 31, 2022, it is the largest credit union in the North Bay, boasting $7.6 billion in assets. It's the 37th largest credit union in the U.S. among approximately 5,200 credit unions and the 8th largest in California out of 300. RCU operates 19 branch locations, with 18 in the North Bay and 1 in San Francisco. They also provide over 30,000 free network ATMs and an out-of-network ATM fee reimbursement program for members. History and Development: Founded in 1950 by seven employees of the County of Sonoma, it later changed its name to Redwood Credit Union in 1982 to reflect the increased demand for affordable financial services in the North Bay. By 2004, RCU's membership had reached 100,000 and by 2007, its assets had grown to $1 billion. They also moved into a new corporate building in Santa Rosa, CA, which is recognized as a silver LEED-Certified green building. Recognition and Awards: RCU has been recognized by Forbes as one of "America's Best Small Employers 2023". It has received the title of the healthiest credit union in California and ranked sixth healthiest in the nation among large credit unions. The credit union has also been acknowledged as the "Best Credit Union" by the readers of Press Democrat every year and has achieved numerous other accolades including a 5‐Star Bauer Rating and an A+ Excellent Rating from Weiss Ratings. Community Impact and Services: RCU is committed to helping its members improve their lives and making a positive difference in the community. Why is flexible/undesignated funding so important for social impact? The reason "why" often starts with "how" How the presence of these funds changes non-profit decision making, risk appetites, investment into innovation, flexibility in local partnerships, ability to learn and adapt... and so much more. All with a view to great impact and better power-shifting. That's how flexible funding changes the game, and I'm thrilled that Janti Soeripto will be exploring this topic today with a brilliant room of philanthropic leaders today at the Global Philanthropy Forum.

Trilled to see the launch of this Framework for Decolonizing Child & Youth Philanthropy! Congratulations to Elena Gillis and her team for their hard work. The process of shifting decision-making power, reshaping internal practices, and the overall journey of decolonizing philanthropy is undoubtedly challenging. However, this framework should ease the process as organizations navigate these important transformations. As Elena notes, the primary focus is on child and youth philanthropy, but I believe this framework contains principles of empowering local communities and promoting inclusive decision-making applicable to any organization engaging with diverse communities. The reflection questions in the companion workbook (page 15) are a great starting point for organizations to analyze their engagement with institutionalized power dynamics within the international development field. A remarkable step towards more equitable and community-driven approaches!
