Hey Fam, I would like to officially welcome you back to Employment Wednesdays and wish you a happy new year! I pray and hope that this year is the best year in your career and in your business. Please note that on parts where I refer to the Basic Conditions of Employment Equity Act, I am actually referring to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act 75 of 1997. Apologies for the error. So today's video is of paramount importance, it is the foundation of our growth and development in our employment relationships. Your Employment Contract, yes, you guessed it! EW highly discourages working without an employment contract. We highly recommend that you have one and read it carefully before signing. I know life gets busy, and you need to get things done quicker...here are the most important factors to look before you sign that the employment contract - 1. Type of employment ontract ( permanent, temporary, fixed, etc.) Termination clause 2. Role/Position and duties 3. Salary ( Benefits, Deductions, Bonuses) 4. Leave days ( many people find themselves absconding without knowing that it's dismissable with immediate effect). 5. Restraint of trade ( Always try to negotiate it to 12 months or 6 months If you can) If I missed something, mention it below. Let's engage. Happy Employment Wednesdays! Don't forget to catch up on our previous content on youtu.be https://lnkd.in/dShjJ_Xi #employmentwednesdays #employmentcontracts #careertips #unemployment

Count me among the happy workers who switched jobs in 2021! I was happy at GlockStore, but so many of my skills were underused, and with the company moving headquarters to Tennessee, I felt that it was only a matter of time before my graphic design role in San Diego moved there, too. Now I'm a Program Coordinator at the San Diego County Sheriff's Department getting paid twice what I did before and using so much more of my skillset — writing, editing, graphic design, web design, motion design, social media management, content creation, video editing, and more. I also have much better benefits, retirement plans, paid days off, training, etc. I even get tuition reimbursement, of which I decided to make good use this year. In fact, I went back to school and enrolled in a certificate program at the University of Phoenix. I'm currently in my third week of my first course in #marketing to help me in my role, which is essentially in recruitment marketing and employer branding. I'm determined to continue learning and growing my skillset, as that's where I'm happiest. After reading Brené Brown's Dare To Lead, I whittled my List of Values down to Joy and Learning. So any job that allows me to have fun doing what I love and learn something new on the way (all while paying me really well, of course) is exactly my kind of job. #writing #editing #videoediting #help #design #graphicdesign #branding #socialmedia #webdesign #management #job #learning #tuition #school #training #jobs #recruitment #love #content #university
Remember all that quitting that happened in 2021 and 2022? One positive effect of the churning pandemic job market is that workers are more satisfied with their jobs now than they've been in decades, according to new data from The Conference Board. US workers re-evaluated their priorities, jumped to better-paying jobs, found work that fit their skills and preferences better, or saw their wages and/or flexibility increase at their current jobs, thanks in part to a tight labor market. In 2022, 62.3% of workers said they were satisfied with their jobs, the highest since the Conference Board started measuring this in 1987. Of the 26 aspects of work measured, the biggest increases were in work-life balance and workload. Who's happiest? Hybrid workers and people who switched jobs during the pandemic. And men. Women were less satisfied than men on all 26 components, including leave policies, bonus and promotion plans, and organizational communication and culture. Are you satisfied with your job? What works for you and what doesn't? And thanks to Naveen Radhakrishna and Kathryn M. Bolz for sharing their stories with me. https://lnkd.in/eZNcBFnd

They like learning from others, getting more training, and earning certifications. Growing in their role while learning new things is what keeps the job exciting. It's a good idea to show someone you hire what their growth path could look like. Of course, some developers are happy where they are. But you won't believe the number of people I speak to who think there is no more room for growth in their current job and want to switch to another company because of that. 🔄 Tomorrow, we'll delve into a topic that’s close to many developers’ hearts, but is often overlooked by employers. 💙 A hint? It's all about giving them the space they need to flourish. Stay tuned, and see you tomorrow for more insights!

Founder @ Soleo. Ghostwriting for the world's most innovative B2B leaders. Clients include Series A/B SaaS firms, YC-backed startups, and 8-figure marketing agencies.
Here’s something else that’s always confused me: Companies laying off employees instead of giving them the raise they deserve. Not just because their skills are worth it... But because it doesn’t even save time or money, either. Severance pay, endless interviews, expensive background checks… Not to mention the exhausting onboarding process. Then there's the uncertainty of them even fitting in— All this, instead of just paying people their worth? Really? Paying fair wages is more profitable (and less stressful) than pinching pennies. Because, go figure... It’s more efficient to invest in talent you already know and trust. So don't take your talent for granted… The cost of replacement is WAY more than the cost of appreciation.

As someone who has walked the path as a BPO employee, I understand the struggles of feeling undervalued and underpaid. Yet, it's through these trials that we learn how to pave a different, more equitable path in our own ventures. Leaving behind the relationships forged with colleagues and my client was undoubtedly difficult, but growth often demands sacrifice. As Brandon Sanderson once wrote, 'The most important words a man can say are, “I will do better.” ' As the COO of Exclusive Prep, my mission is to prioritize the value of our staff, compensate them fairly, and deliver exceptional service to our clients.
