Last month, Johnson & Johnson announced that it now supports more than 100 community-led organizations in marginalized neighborhoods with the goal of advancing quality health care in the U.S. A part of the company’s $100 million "Our Race to Health Equity” initiative, this outreach includes cooperation with hyperlocal community organizations, medical professional organizations, universities, historically Black fraternities and sororities, food banks, among others. Taking a grassroots approach rather than one that is top-down is precisely what I hope to see more of in the corporate sector. Here’s why: This is more than just philanthropy. By focusing its investments on local groups, J&J can ensure that the funds are used with community input – and leverage a network of organizations already equipped with valuable insights into the needs and challenges of underserved communities. What’s more, this is how partnerships between businesses and communities develop and grow. By engaging directly with established community advocates, corporations can create mutual trust and meaningful two-way communication with communities, ensuring lasting benefits that extend far beyond an initial investment.

In United Hospital Fund of New York's most recent Blueprint, I take a moment to talk about resiliency and collective leadership during turbulent times. Here's an excerpt and a link to read in full (short read!) https://lnkd.in/et9auwZ9 This liminal moment is a good time for a resiliency check, much like the run-through in anticipation of a rocket launch. It’s useful to name the competencies we’ll need to maintain our mental health and well-being so we can be fully ready for whatever lies ahead. • Stay in the present: Use whatever works best for us to make sure negative emotions and lapses into dystopian rabbit holes don’t take hold in our minds. For me, this means meditation and physical exercise. • Believe in your self-efficacy: Recognize that, as individuals, we still can influence events and outcomes however big or small. We lose our power when we believe the struggle is lost or that we have no part in it. • Tap into people networks: Rely on relationships with family, friends, and community for strength and joy as they sustain the “lucha.” Cultivate and transmit empathy and compassion as superpowers. It’s existentially fitting that, at this moment, we are launching our Health Equity Fellowship. The program is designed to nurture the next generation of health equity changemakers in New York City. These young people, still relatively early in their medical careers, are focused on enhancing the tools at their disposal to deliver on the notion that all of us deserve an equitable opportunity at realizing our full health potential. In essence, part of their charge is to pressure-test the status quo to see where we’re falling short and where opportunities lie to improve health outcomes for our fellow New Yorkers—but especially our neighbors most in need. This fills me with hope and confidence that each of us can and must keep pushing for progress and equity. Fighting for better health care for each and every one of us—this is what UHF strives to do in all our work. Being non-partisan doesn’t mean upholding the status quo. It means examining issues that affect the health and well-being of New Yorkers from all angles, bringing people together to share diverse viewpoints, and promoting understanding of the impact of policies on real people and the opportunities for positive change.

Birmingham Health Partners will be playing a key role in the Commercial Research Delivery Centres established today by NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research), after co-leading a successful bid with Centre hosts Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust, and partners Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust and NHS - Black Country Provider Collaborative. SECOND LIFE, the digital communication platform made by Sociabble that caters to intensive care survivors, families, and caregivers has reached 500 members! 🌟 How did this project come to life? Sociabble was asked by 101 Fund, the first international endowment fund dedicated entirely to the progress of intensive care, to help them create their own digital communication platform. In order to do this, the SECOND LIFE digital network is exclusively dedicated to supporting intensive care survivors, as well as their loved ones and caregivers, to "live better" during and after intensive care. The platform also connects all caregivers in the field and seeks to bring enhanced meaning and purpose to their daily lives. 👉 One O One's objective? To save 1 million lives over the next 4 years, by fulfilling 3 major missions: better care, better research, and better support.
