Bridging the gap In 2023, amid a cost of living crisis, #SmallButVital charities continued to bridge the gap in public services. We supported 706 small charities across England and Wales, awarding £20.5m funding in total, and commissioning 871 new development support projects to help charities overcome challenges and develop their capacity and services. We continued our work in 12 communities, bringing together local people, groups and organisations to design and deliver services that effectively meet the needs of local people. We also used our platform to influence the UK Government, responding to 11 government consultations and parliamentary inquiries, championing the expertise and experience of small charities and the people they serve and advocating for them to get the support they need. At RefuAid we're often asked about our decision to remain part of Prism the Gift Fund as a collective fund. Questions often include why we haven't established our own charity and how being a collective fund impacts our governance (spoiler alert: our structure enhances oversight and adds layers of accountability without being time-consuming). Small charities are the glue that holds our communities together ❤️ In Islington, approximately 1,395 of the 1500 charities working here are classed as small charities; most as very small, with an income of under £100,000. These organisations are the backbone of our community. They provide safe, familiar spaces for local people, are often the first responders to people in crisis, and are shaped by the communities they serve. But small charities and their staff are under huge pressure. "As local funders, we hear from many groups that fundraising has become harder, while the need for their services continues to increase. we have received more applications to our recent open rounds and, in addition, are seeing more charities dipping into their reserves in order to meet increased costs." ~ Anne Shewring, Programme Director Cripplegate Foundation Islington Giving As funders, there is more we can do to support these vital grassroots organisations - from increased funding to reducing the demands we place on accessing this funding. 2024 Highlights - Aotearoa New Zealand Mid Value donor numbers increasing • The pandemic saw an acceleration of recruits into Mid Value via both Direct Mail and Digital. • But it is new donors coming via Digital that has sustained in volume over the past 5 years, bringing in 44% of new Mid Value donors in 2023. • Most Mid Value donor acquisition, in Aotearoa New Zealand (and Australia), is not driven by charities actively seeking High Value gifts but via donors opting to give a higher amount than presented online or in a Direct Mail pack. https://lnkd.in/ePwsty2

We are pleased to announce that Caledonia Housing Association has created a £12,000 community fund, as part of our #GivingBack campaign to support community organisations which provide vital services and activities for its tenants.   Managed through our Neighbourhood Officers, this fund will ensure resources are allocated to address local needs and support community organisations that directly impact tenants' lives, particularly during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.   Forty organisations have received financial support from the fund including: 🏠 Lochee Community Hub in Dundee 🏠 Faifley Parish Church in Clydebank 🏠 Tulloch Primary School in Perth   The new fund has been established using proceeds generated from the sale of our Caledonia’s Broughty Ferry office, Northwood House, in Dundee which was donated to Caledonia by The Northwood Charitable Trust.    Proceeds of the Northwood House sale have also allowed us to continue our partnership with Scarf, the energy-saving advisory service which supports tenants to manage their energy costs, as well as establish a new partnership with Lightning Reach, a financial support portal which provides access to a range of personalised services to build financial resilience and wellbeing.   Find out more on our website ➡️ https://bit.ly/4hbBEhM   #givingback #affordablehousing #scottishhousing
