🚀 Excited to have visited Beth Kreydatus’ Environmental Justice class at Virginia Commonwealth University yesterday.🌍 It’s inspiring to see such passionate students eager to drive change. Let’s keep the momentum going! Your voices matter in advocating for the continuation of zero-fare transportation contributions from VCU. This initiative isn’t just about convenience—it’s a crucial step towards environmental justice. Here’s why: 1. **Reduces Carbon Footprint**: Zero-fare transportation encourages more students to use public transit, which reduces individual car use and lowers greenhouse gas emissions. 2. **Promotes Equity**: Ensures all students, regardless of financial background, have access to reliable transportation, helping to level the playing field. 3. **Encourages Sustainable Practices**: Supports a culture of sustainability and responsibility towards our environment. Keep advocating and let’s make a difference together! 🌿✨ #EnvironmentalJustice #StudentAdvocacy #ZeroFareTransit #VCU #Sustainability #GreenCampus #ClimateAction

Looking for ways to make sustainability education more practical? Check out Greg King's approach at U of A's Augustana Campus. His environmental science students partner with local organizations to tackle real climate challenges. A recent collaboration with the City of Camrose had students provide actionable strategies for the community’s climate vulnerability assessment. The key? Combining classroom learning with community needs. King integrates the UN Sustainable Development Goals into his courses while building partnerships with local organizations, from the Battle River Watershed Alliance to the Food Artisans of Camrose County. Students learn by doing, and communities benefit from fresh perspectives on sustainability challenges. Location-specific data forms the foundation for many of UMN’s SDG efforts, including the university’s prototype SDG Geospatial Impact Hub. Built by a team of students and faculty using the Sustainable Development Goals Solution from ArcGIS Solutions, the hub site shares relevant county-level performance data on each of the 17 SDGs. The SDG hub site will eventually include enough data for cities and towns to support the work of local and state policymakers, organizations, and the public. The GIS tools inside the hub site will enable efforts to measure and visualize progress. It will be a virtual place to facilitate collaboration on efforts—locally. The University of Minnesota has been tracking and measuring how well the state’s counties are achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This post by Kimberly (Pierceall) Hartley relates how a geographic approach is essential for measuring meaningful change across the state from ensuring clean drinking water to making sure all students are fed. https://lnkd.in/gff3hsWh
