Buildings are responsible for over a third of annual global CO2 emissions. 🌍 The importance of energy efficiency, circular economy and renovation in this sector is correspondingly high. This includes using existing building materials and renewable energies, increasing the life cycle of a building, etc.: The implementation of the national klimaaktiv criteria for sustainable construction in the #AustrianGreenPlanetBuilding Award is perhaps only a small contribution to reducing the ecological footprint of the building sector. But it often takes small stones to get the big ones rolling. We would like to congratulate the 2024 award winners once again! 🙌 We want to see more projects like these: Sustainably built and "made with Austrian know-how and technology". 👌 The 2024 awards and those of previous years can be found on our website agpb.at. Just like the brochure "Austrian Green Planet Building. Award-winning projects around the world", in which all previous award-winning projects may inspire others. #architecture #sustainability #circulareconomy #renovation #energy ATP architekten ingenieure Baumschlager Eberle Architekten Dietrich | Untertrifaller WIEHAG Timber Construction GmbH

Addressing the challenges connected to the modern construction industry is a question that takes more than a dialogue between the authorities and the industry. It is a societal activity of great importance impacting the whole of society. Hence, it is needed to say, that if we want to change something and form a path for the construction industry to become more regenerative and make a promotion and development of a practice that respects planetary boundaries and contribute positively to a better tomorrow, then we need to do something different. We need to change our mindset and our culture. This involves a fundamental and integrated transformation of structures, processes, and practices and must be considered and reflected in holistic policies, regulation and frameworks that reflect real life experience from the users and form a new path for place-based regenerative development and clear the path towards long-term positive impacts on both human well-being and the health of the biosphere. What is needed is a systemic political vision and roadmap towards a construction sector that navigates and combines the recommendations you will find in Future-Proofing Nordic Construction - Policy Paths for Building within the Safe Operating Space: https://lnkd.in/dSVxV3fh Want to know more: Join us at the symposium December 4th: https://lnkd.in/dfzKBxW2 It has been a great pleasure for me to participate in this project and not least to carry on the thoughts of SUSTAINORDIC in which I have been engaged for many years - and hope for a continuation of the project! The dialogue has been hosted and facilitated at several events in all the Nordic countries, and I have loved to moderating an engaging a lot of people at formal meetings, at the Nordic democracy festivals, at the UIA World Congress of Architecture, At The Arctic Circle Assembly, in digital events, at the New European Bauhaus festival, COP26 in Glasgow, and COP27 in Sharm-El-Sheik. See the full program and get inspired: https://lnkd.in/deEF8Td4 Please get in touch if you want to hear more and collaborate on this important agenda! Thanks to Dorte Bo Bojesen, Pernille Martiny Modvig, Angelica Åkerman, Mads Randbøll Wolff, Helle Redder Momsen, Anders Vestergaard Jensen and Coco Krusbæk, all the partners in Nordic Sustainable Construction and the transformation panel for a great collaboration.
Future-Proofing Nordic Construction: Recommendations for Sustainable Development The Nordic construction industry faces a pressing challenge: the demand for new resources is harming our environment. As we strive for sustainability, we must shift our focus from new builds to reimagining existing structures and embracing circular practices. This is especially vital in the Nordics, where high per-capita emissions and resource depletion push us beyond global averages. Our new report, Future-Proofing Nordic Construction, offers a set of policy recommendations to address these systemic challenges. We've gathered insights from urban planners, policymakers, architects, and activists over three years, and packaged them in a toolbox for all of you thought leaders, politicians, industry players and activists out there to start a total conversion of the Nordic housing and construction sector towards practises that fit within the safe operating space. 👉 Read the Full Report Here: https://lnkd.in/dmB9hknq A huge thanks to the SUSTAINORDIC transformation panel for their support and advise throughout the process: Anna Denell, Head of Sustainability, Vasakronan Susanne Iverus Rudenstam, CEO, Swedish Wood Mark Hughes, Professor of Wood Tchnologies, Aalto University Pasi Aalto, Professor, Norwegian University of Science and Technology Hulda Hallgrímsdóttir, Project Manager, Climate, City of Reykjavik Bjarke Fjeldsted, Chief Product Officer, Molio, Denmark Benedicte Wildhagen, Chief Adviser Public Systems & Service Innovation, DOGA, Norway. — #nordicsustainableconstruction #sustainordic #nordicinnovation #norded #Sustainability #Nordicsolutions #planetaryboundaries #circulareconomy #architecture #policy — Dorte Bo Bojesen, Helle Redder Momsen, Angelica Åkerman, Nikolaj Sveistrup, Mads Randbøll Wolff, Anders Vestergaard Jensen, Nordic Innovation, Nordic Sustainable Construction, The Nordic Council of Ministers and The Nordic Council, Form/Design Center, Climate-KIC, Bolig og byggeri | Social- og Boligstyrelsen i Danmark

The #circulareconomy is now an integral part of the German Timber Construction Congress (DHK) organized by FORUM HOLZBAU in Berlin. Meet Holger and Max today and tomorrow to learn more about our acoustic and sustainable solutions. In addition to the c2c capability, it is also important that REGUPOL is a secondary building material. Which means REGUPOL has a significantly smaller carbon footprint than a primary building material. ♻️ Our new #EPD will explain that in detail. 😉 We are well equipped with our certified and tested solutions for #soundproofing in timber construction: https://lnkd.in/d3RAPXkX #REGUPOLAcoustics #circulareconomy #recyclatematters #woodenconstruction #masstimber #timberconstruction #timber #sustainable #sustainability

How can we make concrete infrastructure both eco-efficient and durable? Concrete is the most widely used artificial material in the world, forming the backbone of our transportation and energy infrastructure. At the same time, it is responsible for 8% of global CO2 emissions, making it crucial to develop eco-efficient alternatives. A multidisciplinary team of experts - Thomas Matschei (RWTH Aachen University), Bernhard Pichler (Technische Universität Wien), Miroslav Vořechovský (Vysoké učení technické v Brně), and Rostislav Chudoba (RWTH Aachen University) - is coming together to tackle this problem. Their goal is to develop guidelines for designing durable structures with longer service lives, using the next generation of eco-efficient concretes and promoting their use across the construction sector. One North Quay is great example of delivering sustainability added value beyond certifications and badages! We are applying NABERS-UK Desgin for Performance framework to speculative Lab design despite lack of official certificatation to get the best outcomes in operational and embodied carbon reducation. A lot of leasson learnt from that process over the last three years…
Buro Happold’s multidisciplinary team is working closely with architects KPF to support the development of highly flexible designs for One North Quay, which will be Europe’s largest and most technologically advanced commercial speculative life sciences building. This vertical laboratory campus at Canary Wharf sets ambitious sustainability targets and will become an iconic presence at the heart of North Quay. We were engaged to deliver specialist consultancy around building services engineering (MEP), sustainability, ICT and laboratory planning. The development is a joint venture between Canary Wharf Group and specialist laboratory developer Kadans Science Partner. The client wanted the project to be a showcase of sustainability – achieving net zero carbon in line with UKGBC, working to the design-for-performance guidance of NABERS certification for operational energy, as well as meeting all the latest GLA requirements around embodied carbon and circular economy considerations.
