#SIGNALConf '22 Hot Takes

#SIGNALConf '22 Hot Takes

TL;DR

#SIGNALConf just wrapped a few weeks ago, and here’s our take on #TheClooneys, #DeveloperSlang. #GivingBack, #VenusWilliams, and more.

Sound good? Great! Keep reading.

If not, at least scroll down to the bottom and check out the visual summary notes. Please + thank you.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: #SIGNALConf really is our favorite time of the year here at Twilio. And before we completely lose the momentum and slowly, but surely start putting our Slacks on DND and starting holiday break a tiny, winy, bit early (they said it not us…) we wanted to share some of our favorite moments.

Let’s get it started.

George & Amal Clooney and our CFO Khozema Shipchandler discussing how we can create good in the world. But also Jeff was right...

Having The Clooneys in attendance was certainly a highlight. But so was midway through the conversation realizing that Khozema Shipchandler is George’s doppelgänger. Jeff was right - we can’t unsee it either.

Shoutout to whoever dropped this in the company-wide Slack channel. A gem.

#OOOF asked us “what’s an AIM?” and we officially feel old.

Long story short, there was a moment of ~nostalgia~ during keynote day one…exhibit a)

So we asked our followers their AIM screen names. To know that there’s a generation that knows nothing about this is upsetting and now it’s our mission to keep the memories alive.

$50K to support the work of the IFRC through our game, Heroes of the Lost Beacon!

We were grateful to have Nena Stoiljkovic in attendance to share how the IFRC is delivering humanitarian assistance at scale with the help of Twilio’s programmable messaging. A highlight of this year was that  our Twilio Heroes choose-your-own-adventure-esque game helped raise $50,000 to support the IFRC work!

Apparently there were cookies? The HTTP kind AND the real ones.

So not only did we have the inventor of HTTP cookies, Lou Montulli , join us on this year’s #SIGNALConf stage, but we also had a live coding session with Jeff and Emily Shenfield . They used Twilio Segment to create customized Twilio Hero cookies for attendees!

Unclear what happened to the one on our right, but you get the point.

Venus Williams and our Chief Diversity Officer Lybra Clemons on winning, wellness, and giving back. We stan, tbh.

The conversation was inspirational, no doubt. But #also did you see this moment? We love when two winners link up.

Oh and #ICYMI we’re still building things over here at Twilio to make your lives better.

We previewed quite a few new products and partnerships at this year’s SIGNAL, including Twilio Engage, Twilio Verify SNA + Fraud Guard, Google Cloud Contact Center AI (CCAI) with Twilio Voice, Segment Profile Sync and Reverse ETL.

And…that list probably means nothing to you, so we recommend you read the full recap to better understand each of them.

There’s such a thing as programmer slang, and we’re fans.

Pretty sure this came from urban dictionary, but still.

Developer Evangelist Nathaniel Okenwa dropped a lot of gems at this year’s conference, but we couldn’t stop hearing the word “bork” throughout his coding sesh. It wouldn't be us if we didn't look up what it meant. Peep the definition on the right.

Our CEO Jeff Lawson shares the framework for world-class customer engagement

We talk a lot about this new golden age of customer engagement. But how do companies succeed in it? What should all brands be doing right now? Here it is in 5 simple lessons:

In conclusion…#SIGNAL2022 was one for the books.

Don’t believe us? Just look at how much was covered. And yes, we’re also a bit overwhelmed looking at it all.

Shoutout to Ink Factory for bringing these to life!

Whew. That was a lot. See ya next year!

Which btw…did you know you can register for #SIGNALConf 2023 today? 👉 https://bit.ly/3Ek3K8L

Until then, we can’t wait to see what you build.
