The University of Geneva has a long history of excellence in mathematics that can be traced back to the 18th century with Gabriel Cramer and Jean-Louis Calandrini. Over the years, mathematicians such as Georges de Rham and Michel Kervaire and, more recently, Field Medallist including Vaughan Jones (1990), Stanislav Smirnov (2010), Martin Hairer (2014) and Hugo Duminil-Copin (2022) have further established Geneva amongst the world-class centres for mathematics.

🌟Congratulations to Antti Knowles on His Promotion to Full Professor! 👏 We are delighted to announce that Antti Knowles has been promoted to Full Professor at the University of Geneva’s Section of Mathematics, effective January 1st, 2025! 🎉👏 Antti's research lies at the crossroads of probability, analysis, and mathematical physics, with a particular focus on random matrices, random graphs, statistical mechanics, stochastic processes, high-dimensional statistics, quantum field theory, and quantum dynamics. He obtained a doctorate in theoretical physics from ETH Zürich in 2010 and has been in Geneva since 2016. He has received several distinctions for his work, including two European Research Council (ERC) grants: an ERC Starting Grant in 2016 and an ERC Consolidator Grant in 2022. 🏆✨ Beyond his research and teaching, Professor Knowles serves as Vice-Chair of the Section of Mathematics at the University of Geneva and is a member of the NCCR SwissMAP. He sits on the editorial boards of several journals and is an elected member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Mathematical Physics.📚✍️ Congratulations, Antti!
