🌍 Fostering refugee students' language skills through university engagement 💬 Thanks to the 4 EU+ Alliance, we’re thrilled to announce a recent partnership with the University of Milan. This agreement allows BA and MA students in foreign languages to become online language tutors for InZone's Language Learning programme, which is rolled out in Azraq Camp, Jordan and Niamey, Niger. Not only will these students help refugee learners, but they will also receive academic credits for their important work! 🎓 The agreement enables us to collaborate with undergraduates who have outstanding language skills and a passion for supporting refugee learners, all the while honing their tutoring expertise. ✍️ The InZone tutoring scheme, established in 2020, has already involved 60+ volunteer tutors from 13 countries who have supported more than 200 English learners in camps. Are you curious? 🤔 Check out the link below. Applications are open year-round to join our English or French tutoring team! https://lnkd.in/esu469Rt #LanguageTutoring #4EUAlliance #EducationForAll Prof Karl Blanchet Thierry Agagliate 4EU+ Alliance Università degli Studi di Milano

📚 #ÉducationPourTous #Réfugiés #InZone #DELF #Francophonie #OpportunitésÉducatives Prof Karl Blanchet Thierry Agagliate World University Service of Canada (WUSC - EUMC)

🌍 Train the Trainers with Simulation-based learning for Community Health Practice in Kakuma Refugee Camp InZone, in collaboration with the Centre Interprofessionnel de Simulation (CiS)—a partnership between the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva, HUG, and other key actors (https://www.cis-ge.ch/) launched an innovative learning approach to train recent graduates of the University of Geneva’s Certificate of Open Studies in Community Health. The trainees, including Community Health Promoters, will play a pivotal role in supporting their peers during the upcoming cohort. Our approach employs basic simulation-based learning, using real-life and locally adapted scenarios from the community health environment to prepare dedicated learners to become trainers, with support from IRC (International Rescue Committee) staff. This intense and participatory three-day training was piloted at InZone’s learning centre in Kakuma. The new trainers will be directly involved in mentoring the latest cohort of UNIGE’s Certificate of Open Studies in Community Health, who have just embarked on their academic journey this year! 🚀 #CommunityHealth #InZone #Kakuma #Education #Innovation #Empowerment #FutureLeaders Prof Karl Blanchet Thierry Agagliate

🎓 Celebrating the first graduates of UNIGE’s Certificate of Open Studies in Community Health and launching the next cohort! On 16 September 2024, 29 students from 9 nationalities proudly celebrated the completion of their year-long studies in Community Health at Kakuma refugee camp, Kenya. This innovative, credit-bearing programme (12 ECTS) is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to their community’s health. The aim is to foster collaboration with peers and support local health and humanitarian actors (such as the International Rescue Committee) to improve disease prevention, surveillance and health-seeking behaviour at the community level. 🌍 The programme was simultaneously rolled out in 3 refugee camps: Kakuma (Kenya), Azraq (Jordan) and Diffa (Niger). We're thrilled to announce the launch of the next cohort with over 60 learners in Kakuma! This time, the course will be bilingual (English and French), extending opportunities to French-speaking refugee populations. Huge congratulations to all the graduates of the first cohort! 👏🏽 InZone would like to thank IRC Kenya, Emphnet, CARE, Yara, the University of Geneva's Faculty of Medicine, the University of Diffa, and HUG (Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève) for their steadfast support. 🤝 #highereducation #refugees #communityhealth #emporwement Prof Karl Blanchet Thierry Agagliate

Learning how to design, plan and implement a project is an essential professional skill, whatever the sector. 16 of our refugee and non-refugee students from Niger, selected out of 145 applicants, benefited from a week's intensive online training, thanks to the pro-bono commitment of Gilles Vallet, http://www.highware.fr/ , a renowned trainer in project engineering and management, whom we warmly thank, as well as the NGO Yara LNC Suisse who organized the training.

🎉 InZone Students Celebrate End-of-Year Exams! In Diffa, Niger, our InZone students are proudly celebrating the end-of-year exams. After following InZone’s Certificate of Open Studies in Community Health programme for the past two semesters, they’ve found an original way to celebrate this milestone while awaiting their results. They crafted and designed custom t-shirts, which they’re proudly showing off to the camera! InZone’s flagship COS programme has seen 59 students enrolled from 3 learning centres: Kakuma camp (Kenya), Azraq camp (Jordan), and Diffa (Niger). This credit-bearing course aims to equip students with the theoretical knowledge to become fully-fledged community health workers and support their local communities. 🌍 Congratulations to all the students for making it this far! 🎓👏 Thierry Agagliate Prof Karl Blanchet #InZone #CommunityHealth #Education #refugees

How can we generate impact through social innovation? What digital skills can we leverage to achieve sustainable development goals? What pathways can we follow to work together across cultures and sectors? (HOPE) is a project funded by the UZH Teaching Fund (ULF), as one of the key educational activities of The BRIDGE Lab. As the first milestone, HOPE will release its project-based learning course on the topic Social Innovation for Development and Sustainability in fall 2024. The course is designed to bring together students from University of Zurich and University of Geneva, alongside refugee learners living in camps in Kenya, Niger and Jordan, to co-create technology for development (T4D) solutions for real-world challenges, during a 4-day tutorial session in a hybrid format. Practice partners include the InZone Program, Centre of Humanitarian Studies, and leading international organisations operating in humanitarian crisis contexts. A great initiative by Terre des hommes and its academic partners in Middle East! We are grateful for this opportunity offered, among other, to 20 of our students in Azraq refugee camp! Understanding Children's Rights is essential in any circunstances but particularly in a context such as Azraq where chidren account for more than half of the population and where many education and protection programs implemented by humanitarian actors rely on active community participation.
