📊 Women produce nearly half of Africa’s food but have far less access to land, finance, and modern technology than men. If women farmers had the same resources as men, their yields could increase by 20–30%, significantly boosting food security. 🌍 According to FAO, closing this gender gap could add nearly $1 trillion to global GDP and lift 45 million people from hunger. Investing in women isn’t just about fairness - it’s key to Africa’s economic and agricultural future. #IWD2025 #GenderEquality #WomenInAg #AFSForum Sources: One Acre Fund, 2024, FAO, 2024 Image source: Nikon via Unsplash

Did you know? Over 60% of employed women in rural Africa work in the agriculture sector, making them the backbone of food production and rural economies. From smallholder farms to agribusinesses, they drive food security, yet many still lack access to land ownership, finance, and modern farming tools. 📢 This International Women's Month, we celebrate their resilience and call for policies that ensure equal access to resources - because when women farmers thrive, entire communities prosper. #IWD2025 #WomenInAg #AFSForum Source: UNECA, 2024 Image source: Inframetz/Nikon via Unsplash

World Water Day Laikipia, Isiolo, Samburu Transforming the Environment through Nexus (LISTEN) initiative #Kenya has utilised locally led innovative solutions to stimulate #foodsecurity and #waterresource in building resilience to climate change. Through local community partners, the project has worked in Laikipia, Isiolo and Samburu counties to strengthen water and soil conservation measures and introduced alternative livelihoods through selected crop and livestock value chains. The communities have embraced apiculture and adopted drip irrigation for production of nutritious traditional vegetables. SNV John Macharia Watch https://lnkd.in/dr_W7ZSA

Have African countries changed their approach to agricultural development since the adoption of the Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Programme #CAADP? Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki, African Union Special Envoy on Food Systems walks us through the journey of revolutionizing Africa’s agriculture sector and food systems while recalling the essence of the conceptualization of the #CAADP. He elaborates on why #agriculture needs a multi sectoral approach rather than a monocultural one.
