Exploring the Future of Regenerative Cities: Insights, Innovations, and Impact In collaboration with Ramboll and supported by the Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC), ULI Singapore hosted 'Creating a Regenerative City: Opportunities, Challenges, and Measuring ROI', which explored the transformative potential of Regenerative Cities, an initiative that redefines urban development by moving beyond sustainability to embrace resilience, social equity, and the regeneration of natural systems. In the panel discussion: 👍 Experts emphasized that adopting a systems approach in governance and planning could amplify the impact of regenerative efforts. A paradigm shift in mindset was also deemed crucial, exemplified by the successful implementation of projects like Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park and the Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) Programme. 👍 The conversation underscored the financial sector’s pivotal role, highlighting the importance of innovative financial instruments and incentives to drive investment in regenerative initiatives. 👍 Panellists discussed how the Centre for Liveable Cities is advancing these efforts and explored opportunities to strengthen ongoing initiatives. 👍 The session concluded with insights on embedding regenerative strategies into urban planning to enhance climate resilience and ensure the sustainable, long-term development of cities. In the break-out focus group session: 👏 Industry professionals tackled critical questions on advancing regenerative urban strategies. They addressed regulatory and policy challenges, shared ideas for policy innovation, and discussed leveraging untapped incentives. 👏 Participants examined the business case for regenerative approaches, identifying methods to quantify benefits and measure returns. Financial feasibility, risk mitigation, and strategic partnerships were emphasized as crucial for scaling these efforts effectively. Meet the ULI Singapore WLI Sustainability Superheroes – A Fun, Frank & Fresh Exchange of Ideas On 16 October 2024, ULI Singapore hosted "Meet the ULI Singapore Sustainability Superheroes", at 108 Robinson Road, where industry leaders shared their unique perspectives on sustainability across the real estate value chain. The lively session kicked off with panellists revealing their “sustainability superpower” and how key moments have shaped their approach to driving sustainability in their work. A key highlight of the event was the candid discussion on industry misconceptions, expertly moderated by Joelle Chen, Head of Sustainability Asia Pacific at LaSalle Investment Management. Each speaker challenged stereotypes tied to their roles: ✨ Natalie Craig, CEO of Cushman & Wakefield, debunked the myth that facilities managers are too focused on short-term operations, showing how partnering facilities managers on longer-term projects and retrofitting older buildings can yield sustainability gains. ✨ Joyce Lo, Director of Private Capital Advisory Group at Lazard emphasized that investors are increasingly factoring in long-term risks like climate change and how progressive investors are aligning financial incentives with sustainability outcomes for their GPs. ✨ Anna Surgenor, Senior Consultant and Circular Economy Lead at Arup addressed common client pitfalls, stressing the importance of simplifying the message, realistic goal-setting and practical implementation for impactful results. ✨ Su Lin Wee, Executive Director and Head of Asset Management at PGIM Real Estate, tackled the misconception that sustainability poses excessive costs for building owners, offering insights on how sustainability can help protect value and future-proof assets.
