Updates

  • Alicat Workboats Ltd workboats is a new build vessel and service repair company serving the offshore wind industry here on the Norfolk coast at Great Yarmouth. Over the years we have been in collaboration with East Coast College Welding Academy (Great Yarmouth) offering apprenticeships and work experience for all their students, as we see the need to bring youngsters back into the industry and to their grow their skills set.  Last year July 2024 we had Ruben Lima and Harley Carson on a two-week work experience to give them an insight to the industry and to expand their current experience. As we had our apprentice quoter for 2024, we then decided that because of their enthusiasm and work ethic we had little choice but to take them both on as trainee’s Ruben Fab/welder and Harley as a welder. Both Harley and Ruben completed a 3-year course with East Coast College Welding Academy (Great Yarmouth) studying a level 3 diploma in engineering and welding both gaining a distinction along with qualifying certification. Our thanks go to Douglas Lawrence and Jason Taylor (ECCWA) for their excellent facilities and tuition along with the continuing support during their trainee period. Harley and Ruben now have a bright future ahead of them and we look forward to continuing our relationship with ECCWA  to bring on further apprentices into the ship building and renewable industry.

      +1
  • Today we welcomed East Coast Welding Academy 1st year students on a site visit. There instructors Doug, Jason, Sam wanted them to experience 1st hand a working environment and actual process of new build fabrication and vessel repairs in an actual working yard. They also talked to 4 ex students whom we have taken on this year from ECWA, who have excelled and have gained valuable knowledge while working here Alicat Workboats Ltd. Our continued support of the ECWA and the students can only be a positive for our industry bringing new blood in, and seeing enthusiasm from these students wanting to take up a professional trade...
