The Abercynon Workmen’s Hall and Institute, which opened in 1905, was once the largest such building in South Wales. It served as a hub for cultural and educational activities, hosting notable figures such as Keir Hardie, Ramsay MacDonald, and Aneurin Bevan. Asbri Planning is delighted to have obtained a couple of planning permissions either side of the Christmas break for Dyfed Steels in Llanelli. The first was for the change of use of an adjacent building from its previous use as an architectural salvage yard into an industrial use for Dyfed Steel, and the replacement of its current multi-pitch roof which is in poor condition with a new, one span pitched roof. The second permission was for the construction of a new 3,000sqm industrial unit within the curtilage of the existing Dyfed Steel operation. Dyfed Steels Ltd is the largest independent steel stockholder and processor of steel in Wales and the South West of England. The company has operated in the town for over 45 years playing an important role in the town’s economy. It is hoped that the proposed developments will stimulate further economic growth by allowing the company to increase its production capacity and create further job opportunities. Back in 2021 Asbri Planning successfully obtained planning permission for a high quality tourist accommodation development just outside Pembrey Country Park in Carmarthenshire. We are delighted to now obtain a further planning permission on this site. The approval allows for a revised layout for the 23 lodges, but also permits the lodges to be purpose built. The previous planning permission proposed lodges that were "twin units" put together. No alterations were proposed to the previously approved conversion and extension of the former pumphouse into holiday lets. The vision remains to provide a high quality, all year round tourist accommodation offer that will also provide a new beneficial use to the historic pumphouse building.
