This week we were delighted to welcome the House of Commons' Energy Security and Net Zero Select Committee to ABP's port at Port Talbot. We were pleased to share our plans to support floating offshore wind (FLOW) in the Celtic Sea with Committee Chair, Bill Esterson, and Committee members including Luke Murphy, Mike Reader, Bradley Thomas MP and Claire Young, as well as Committee Clerks Stephen McGinness, Julian Mazowiecki. We were also joined by Stephen Kinnock to highlight how the prospect of creating a world-class manufacturing and supply chain hub in Port Talbot brings opportunities for broader green energy and industrial activity. ABP's Port of Swansea will also play a crucial role in the roll-out of FLOW in the Celtic Sea, ensuring that the benefits of this opportunity extend beyond Port Talbot to the wider South Wales region. Along with the Celtic Freeport, the vision is for a green investment and innovation corridor that spreads across south Wales and will help drive major inward investment, future skills development and national decarbonisation. ABP News Release: Port of Southampton welcomes hundreds of innovators to accelerate maritime decarbonisation🌍 The EVA Southampton Innovation Exchange, took place on the first day of the Maritime UK Solent Coastal Maritime Summit. Alastair Welch, ABP’s Regional Director for Southampton, said: “Today, we’ve been able to demonstrate Southampton’s place at the heart of maritime decarbonisation in the UK. Southampton has been a leader in UK port sustainability through being the first port to deploy shorepower at scale and by publishing a comprehensive air quality strategy. “At ABP, we are committed to leading positive change when it comes to maritime decarbonisation both through our sustainability strategy ‘Ready for Tomorrow’ and initiatives like EVA. We are developing the infrastructure to support green shipping and working with our partners to turn ambition into reality.” The themes of innovation and sustainability were also reflected in Maritime Minister Mike Kane’s keynote speech at the Summit, who said: “We have just announced our plan for shipping to become net zero by 2050, and it’s great to see ports like ABP embrace these ambitions by going even further and faster to decarbonise.” “It’s a pleasure to join the Coastal Powerhouse Summit and come together with leading innovators across the industry so we can drive forward the progress needed to clean up maritime, establish the UK as a clean energy superpower and drive economic growth across the country.” The EVA Southampton Innovation Exchange provided the stage for ABP to announce its intention to work with green maritime innovators Seabound and STAX Engineering to explore opportunities to capture at-berth emissions while vessels are in port. ABP is currently engaging with key shipping customers looking at technical and economic feasibility with a view to deploying the technology in early 2026. Max Harris, ABP’s Group Head of Strategy & Sustainability, who leads the EVA programme, commented: “I am delighted to announce that as part of ABP’s broader strategic ambitions, we are excited to be working with UK carbon capture startup Seabound and California emissions capture service provider STAX Engineering, who are integrating their solutions to minimise both air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions – helping to make shipping and ports more sustainable.” 👉 Access the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/e9fHsT3f Thank you to all who contributed to and attended this great event! #Innovation / Plug and Play UK / #ABPventures / Lex Hanham / Ralph Windeatt / Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom / #CoastalPowerhouseConference / #Decarbonisation / #Maritime / Mary Carmen Barrios / Charles Haskell / Kay Lemcke / Peter Livey / Tristan Smith / XFuel / Armada Technologies / PuriFire Energy) / GT Wings

The Port celebrated the arrival of its first brand-new cruise ship for 2025, the Norwegian Aqua. It was an honour for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. to choose Southampton for the ship's maiden voyage. The Norwegian Aqua docked in Southampton on Tuesday 25 March, with 2,000 guests on board. During her visit, the ship was commissioned for shore power at Horizon Cruise Terminal, allowing her to plug in for zero emissions while at berth. Shore power is also available at the Port's Mayflower Cruise Terminal. Steven Masters, ABP Southampton Harbour Master, presented Captain Robert Lundberg with a plaque as a traditional welcome to the city. The Lord Mayor of Southampton, David Shields, Councillor Eamonn Keogh, Adam Newman, CLIA | Cruise Lines International Association and Kay Greenway from Cruise Britain also joined the plaque and key exchange. It was an excellent opportunity to meet the Norwegian Cruise Line team and tour the brand-new ship. This Prima Plus-class ship can accommodate over 3,000 guests and features exciting attractions such as the Aqua Slide coaster, a hybrid roller coaster and waterslide, the Glow Court sports complex, and three new dining options.

Last night, in Southampton, we welcomed 300 staff and customers to the Port’s annual charity quiz. The event, organised by our local Social Team, raised almost £7000 in support of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA). The quiz was hosted at City Cruise Terminal by ABP General Manager Tom Dynes and Solent Stevedores’ Commercial Manager, Ray Facey. HIOWAA relies on donations and fundraising to operate, as it receives no government funding or grants. The charity provides a vital service across Hampshire and the Solent, typically responding to seven missions each day. They provide a critical care team and equipment on-site, saving crucial minutes to ensure patients receive the necessary treatment, often on the roadside. We received lots of support for the event and want to thank everyone involved, including Carlisle Support Services for providing their cleaning services at no charge, SBS Event Productions Ltd for their brilliant audio and visual planning and equipment, Solent Stevedores Ltd and JOHN H.WHITAKER (TANKERS) LIMITED for providing raffle prizes and the volunteers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. #fundraising #community #getinvolved
