Last week, we spent several days judging the Creative Review Annual Awards 2025 🏆 But... With so much immense talent on offer, it struck me as a missed opportunity that great work—which could’ve, and should’ve, won big—was sidelined due to poor descriptions, sloppy application or generally, it seemed, some applicants not giving that much of a toss about how it was presented. Heartbreaking. And ironic, given we’re all professionals in visual communication. So—if it helps, and hopefully it will but please ignore me if not—I've jotted down a few observations I had for entering awards, which might ensure your beautiful work is able to shine! ✨ 1. Make sure you enter the right category. There were many incredible brand campaigns in the ‘rebrand’ category which had to get annulled. Gah! 2. Remember to include as many images and animations as possible. A project with 20 images feels a lot more comprehensive, memorable and profound than a project with only one… It also shows you give a bit more of a shit about your application too. 3. Make sure your copy and descriptions are bang on, checking they’re relevant to the category you’re entering and succinct. 4. Small point, but remember to name your images and animations correctly—with studio name and project. It makes you look neat and professional, and shows you sweat the detail. Which is important. I saw a few too many IMG_5199.jpeg etc… 5. Try and enter work which makes you stand out and get noticed. It was great seeing some self-initiated studio projects in the mix in some of the categories too—a fantastic chance to show off and let your hair down, without the worry of having to fit around the needs and dictates of a client. What a wealth of talent there was, though 💖 I turn on the news and despair, but seeing all this beautiful work turned my frown upside down ☺️ Best of luck to all who entered and thanks so much again to the Creative Review team for making this happen, in particular Aimée McLaughlin Anna Walder Lindsay Urquhart 🙏 #creativereviewawards #judging #CRAnnualAwards #judge #entrytips
