IETA recently released its Letter of Authorisation (LoA) Directory; an extremely useful tool for easily searching the LoAs that are available publicly and understanding how they are structured. This tool is an excellent resource for organisations to learn from the experiences of other market participants as they seek to craft their own LoAs. At Kita, we will be using the directory to further bolster our LoA knowledge, while the market works to shape a preeminent LoA template. If you’re interested in Kita’s views on what needs to be in an LoA to make it insurable, or how it relates to our Carbon Political Risk Cover, please reach out. 🔍 Explore IETA's LoA directory here: https://lnkd.in/eBwW2Ykg 💡 Discover more about Kita's Carbon Political Risk Cover: https://lnkd.in/ejypcPqp

📣 Reduce *and* invest is a new strategic mantra for every business leader 📣 Kita is a signatory on this "Open Letter to Future Carbon Credit Buyers". The science shows that emission reduction alone is not enough to address the significant impacts of climate change. Corporates and individuals should continue to strive to reduce their emissions as much as possible, while simultaneously investing in carbon solutions that remove CO2 from the atmosphere. It is not an either/or equation. It is both/and. Now is the time for companies to take greater responsibility for the emissions they cannot reduce by purchasing and retiring high-quality carbon credits. Kita is delighted to announce that we have provided insurance for Marex's investment into Global Mangrove Trust's high-integrity mangrove project in North Sumatra. The project was launched under the OxCarbon Standard by Yagasu (Yayasan Gajah Sumatra) and The Global Mangrove Trust, with support from Marex. It focuses on the restoration and conservation of coastal mangrove ecosystems, with livelihood generation and social programmes integral to the conservation approach. Kumi Analytics Pte Ltd provides verification using satellites, AI and on-the-ground monitoring. This policy reflects the recent expansion of our Carbon Purchase Protection Cover to Mangroves (in addition to the existing policies we offer for Afforestation, Biochar and Enhanced Rock Weathering). We are committed to offering insurance products and services that provide an additional layer of security and a stamp of confidence for high-quality carbon solutions. "No other industry of a comparative scale operates without risk transfer" Last Thursday, we hosted a webinar which explored the risks (and potential solutions) in biochar project development. With attendees joining us from all corners of the globe and representing an array of different roles within the biochar sector, it was a topic that clearly resonates with many organisations and individuals. If you could not attend the live webinar, please do check out the recording below, in which Thomas Merriman of Kita and Melissa Leung of GECA Environnement, map out some of the risks and consider how these can be mitigated and managed to unlock the financing needed to scale biochar solutions. 📺 Watch here: https://lnkd.in/ejmiybma A big thank you also to Antoine Roba, for moderating the dicussion, and Racheal Notto, for taking care of the technical side of the event. ✳ Kita in the wild! ✳ Last week, Kita’s Eilís O’Keefe visited Aberystwyth University to participate in the Greenhouse Gas Removal Future Leaders Network Demonstrator Roadshow. As part of the second wave of the UK government’s Strategic Priorities Fund, UK Research and Innovation has invested £30 million to investigate the viability of five innovative methods of large-scale Greenhouse Gas Removal (GGR) in the UK - including enhanced rock weathering; sustainable treescapes; perennial biomass crops; peat formation; and biochar. The 3-day visit involved presentations from experts at the forefront of GGR research and implementation. The team also got to visit the demonstrator sites which were located nearby. This trip enabled Eilis to access cutting-edge research on a range of GGR projects and prompted insightful discussions around the challenges and opportunities associated with the practical implementation of these projects in the UK. A key takeaway from this trip was the importance of research into GGR and the need for continued cross-sector collaboration, to ensure the successful deployment of GGR in the UK at scale. At Kita, we love getting the chance to learn more about carbon solutions 'on the ground' and to witness firsthand the amount of expertise and rigour that is being applied to these technologies in order to affect the environmental outcomes that are so desperately needed. We look forward to incorporating the learnings from this trip and other collaborative work that we do into our product development in the insurance sector. We are committed to constantly iterating and refining our risk management products to best support the growth of GGR projects in the UK and globally. A big thank you to Aberystwyth University and CO₂RE - The Greenhouse Gas Removal Hub for hosting Eilis and the other members of the Future Leaders Network, and to Aaron Benjamin, Francesca Battersby and Ben Roberts for excellent facilitation throughout the trip! #carboninsurance #GGR #carbonmarkets
