Members from the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry were given a glimpse into the future on Monday during a visit to London Stansted Airport ✈️ The delegation saw first-hand how London Stansted Airport is pushing ahead with its terminal extension, improving passenger facilities, and advancing its plans for sustainable growth with its Sustainable Development Plan (SDP). Gareth Powell, London Stansted’s Managing Director, said: “Our investment isn’t just about expanding the airport; it’s about doing it responsibly with projects like a new solar farm and EV charging stations and training the next generation of aviation professionals through our ground-breaking education programmes.” The highlight of the visit was a tour of Stansted Airport College, the UK’s first purpose-built aviation college at an airport. Yesterday, we had the pleasure of visiting London Stansted Airport, our Patron Member and Green Skies Aviation Programme Partner, to learn more about its transformative plans for sustainable growth and outstanding contributions to the local economy and skills development. Aviation is a key driver of London’s economy, connecting our diverse business community to global markets🛫 During our visit, we spoke about Stansted’s 20 year Sustainable Development Plan, which focuses on key priorities such as increasing aviation capacity, enhancing community impact, and achieving ambitious environmental goals. We also discussed the £1.1 billion terminal expansion project, which is set to create 5,000 new jobs and significantly boost connectivity for London’s businesses and communities. We were delighted to review Future Security, terminal changes and transformation-enabling works, and to see the International Departure Lounge. We were particularly impressed by Stansted’s commitment to education and skills development. Our tour of the on-site Stansted Airport College highlighted the incredible work being done to strengthen the region’s talent pipeline, in collaboration with local schools and colleges, ensuring the aviation industry continues to thrive in London📈 We were delighted to be hosted in the Emirates lounge and to have the opportunity to tour the airfield where we learnt more about Stansted’s premium offering with Emirates. With twice-daily flights to Dubai, this route has become a vital link for business travel and international trade. This connection is particularly significant considering our recent MoU with the Dubai Chambers, strengthening ties and creating new opportunities for collaboration between London and Dubai. The visit underlined the vital role that London Stansted Airport and aviation plays in driving London’s economic growth while prioritising sustainability and innovation to meet future challenges.

London Stansted Airport and UK Innovation Corridor announce partnership 🤝 This landmark 12-month partnership will help support the growth and development of the region, bringing together businesses, government, and other organisations to drive innovation, job creation and boost international connectivity. The announcement comes as the UKIC launches its first-ever Investment Prospectus, which highlights the region’s importance to the UK economy. In partnership with Cambridge Cleantech, London Stansted Airport hosted a major roundtable event bringing together experts from the aviation, energy, and sustainability sectors to discuss how the East of England can play a key role in producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) ♻️ The discussions focused how the East of England can take advantage of its strengths and infrastructure to lead the way in SAF production and meet the growing demand for sustainable fuel options in aviation ✈️ The event was kicked off by Gareth Powell, London Stansted’s Managing Director, and included speakers from Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, SSE plc, LanzaTech and Innovate UK. London Stansted has announced a landmark 12-month partnership with the UK Innovation Corridor (UKIC), becoming one of its main strategic partners. The partnership will help support the growth and development of the region, bringing together businesses, government, and other organisations. London Stansted Airport welcomed 29.76 million passengers in 2024 - the busiest ever year in the airport’s history 🎉 ✈️ The airport handled 2.23 million passengers in December, a 7.4% increase compared to the same month in 2023. 📈 The airport’s cargo operations experienced significant growth, reinforcing its role as a vital hub for regional businesses and global trade. 🇦🇪 Dubai remained a key destination, with travellers from the region choosing the ever-popular Emirates service, a success further highlighted by the opening of a luxury business lounge at the airport in October.
