2024 has been another monumental year for NJL Consulting with some major project milestones and successes. Over the year we have: 🏡 Secured planning permission for 66 new homes at Pemberton Phase 2. 🏭 Gained consent for over 90,000sq.ft of commercial space across two sites. 🏆 Won an appeal in Preston which secured outline planning permission for 50 units in Broughton. This decision continued Mark Saunders' 100% success rate for recent appeals. 🎾 Secured planning permission for 23 new padel tennis courts across the country with a strong pipeline of 40 more facilities for 2025. 🌲 Achieved a milestone approval at Tameside’s planning committee for the redevelopment of the former Hartshead power station. 🏘️ Submitted planning applications for over 1,000 new homes across the country and have secured instructions on 5,000 more homes. 📃 Submitted representations to over 10 local authorities on various planning documents. 📍 Been active in over 50 local authorities throughout the year. ✅ Prepared and submitted close to 100 discharge of condition applications and over 15 non-material amendments. 👏 Progressed our relationship with Calton Planning + Development Limited further by facilitating Emily Bates’ move to Scotland to work across both businesses. 🎓 Grew the team by welcoming Emily Paulson as our most recent graduate planner. 🎖️ Supported both Emily Bates and Ailsa Goudie to pass their APC and become chartered planners. 👩🎓 Welcomed Melody Rahmani as our placement student over the academic year to help her complete her studies at Runshaw College. 🏫 Made a huge milestone in our working relationship with both the Royal Town Planning Institute and the University of Manchester by facilitating Daryna Tymkiv’s continued work experience and study. 💷 Hosted various charity events raising over £5,000 for Lifeshare. We’re looking forward to continuing this great work into 2025 and beyond. And we’re delighted to welcome back Elliott Bullock to the team in January as an Associate Director, and also Megan Gibson who will join us as a planning intern. We wish everyone a very merry Christmas and look forward to working together in 2025.

Huge congratulations to Emily Paulson who yesterday graduated with a Distinction in her Masters of Civic Design (Town and Regional Planning) from the University of Liverpool. Emily received a fantastic 81% in her dissertation that explored how planning and policy implementation can influence women’s safety in Manchester’s Northern Quarter night time economy.

NJL Consulting are doing the planning application for this, a not dissimilar job to the one we did for the Van Gogh exhibition. I am sure it will be an amazing experience! Ailsa Goudie.

Interesting and I suspect will likely trigger the starting gun over preferred new sites - interest to declare - we are working on one of them! The coming weeks could be busy.....

I couldn't help search and see how the Daily Mail would report the call-in of the major project in Swale last week. 1. No one under 60 in the article. 2. All acknowledge we need homes. 3. All note the need for affordable housing for their kids. 4. Complain about the lack of infrastructure - but nowhere is there any explanation of what the developer is actually proposing. The power of the media to to tilt the message a certain way is always fascinating, irrespective of what the truth may be! https://lnkd.in/eBaxi9p7
We don't want new 'garden town' but fear Angela Rayner will approve it

Last night, we hosted our first (of many, we hope!) property quiz. The event brought together over 100 property professionals from across Manchester to compete for the coveted title of quiz winners. Quiz masters Rachel Glover White, Nick Lee and Mark Saunders tested everyone on their knowledge of sport, Manchester general knowledge, reality TV, planning(!), history and music, as well as quizzing attendees on well known landmarks around the city. Well done to Eddisons for storming to victory in the quiz and a big shout out to Roger Hannah and Northstone for their sterling efforts to secure 2nd and 3rd spot. The event was in aid of Lifeshare, our chosen charity partner. Lifeshare are the oldest homeless charity in Manchester and work tirelessly year round to offer support, advice and supplies to people who are homeless in the city. As property professionals working to improve and increase the number of homes in our region, our affiliation with Life Share is obvious. We want to work together to end homeless in Manchester and ensure that everyone has a roof over their head and a place to call home. The quiz, and raffle, collectively raised over £3,000 for Lifeshare- thankyou to all who donated and attended the evening. If you would still like to donate, you can do so at the following link: https://lnkd.in/e9Eg4MPq And a huge thanks to Claire Malley who's organisation made this amazing event possible. If anyone would like to attend next year, please get in touch and we can book you in.

📢 New Blog: How NPPF Changes Impact Non-Residential Projects 📢 The revised NPPF may soon offer new opportunities for non-residential developments, particularly around the Green Belt. With the potential introduction of a “Grey Belt” concept, this update could help meet growing demands for commercial space while balancing community and infrastructure needs.
