The First New Neighbourhood in London, built exclusively for independent brands. #innovation #wandsworth #Legal&General
Our ground floor space at New Acres is creating an environment for independent businesses and community to thrive. The nature of high street retail needs to change and we have a part to play in that. We are here to champion local, independent high streets that reflect and inspire our community. As part of this initiative, we introduce The NEX, a multipurpose community hub in the heart of Wandsworth Town. The home of local coffee shop 404 , FOUNDRY's latest co-working space and the super SATELLITE powered by the Royal College of Art. The NEX is a space where work meets play, connecting creatives and the community. It is the first instalment in the New Acres retail story. Are you a small business owner looking for a space to help your business thrive? We would love to hear from you and invite you to join us in seeing independent retail flourish within Wandsworth Town. #independantretail #supportlocal #localhighstreets #newacresretail #smallbusiness #coworking #wandworth #wandworthliving

STRATEGIC PLACEMAKING #6 HIGH STREETS BOOSTING WELLBEING There are roughly 7,000 high streets across the country*. 90% of Londoners live within 10 minutes of its 1,200 high streets, which support 25% of all the capital’s jobs**. What is becoming increasingly discussed is the importance of high streets to our wellbeing. High streets are still where we do the vast majority of our socialising. It's where we went when emerging from lockdowns during the pandemic. It's where we meet, eat, shop and play. The Public First Report 2020, showed that we care deeply about out high streets. They are a place for civic pride, and demonstrate a desire for physical shopping rather than online. But most importantly it is where we interact with others. With our increasing awareness of mental illness we are giving more thought to what can help our physical as well as our mental health needs. Activating the ground floor of large residential led developments has many benefits, but a principle one should be to build a community, a neighbourhood, one that offers what has been referred to as meeting-moments. Cafes, bars, events, or simply a bench where the community can get to know one another, and of course enhance Britain’s high streets. To learn more about what it takes to be create a successful retail development contact Tony Moore at Shackleton. "Hello Gail's" 👋 Happy to have enabled another fabulous food venue for The Brentford Project and the wider Brentford community. #TheBrentfordProject
Our new bakery in Brentford is housed in a listed warehouse building which once played host to a grocery store. Our friends at Holland & Harvey have taken inspiration from the location’s industrial heritage with food taking centre stage once again. They have created a simple backdrop by exposing existing brickwork, adding industrial light fittings and using sustainable acoustic panelling. The team will be led by Beta, who has managed our bakery in Chiswick for eleven years and supported many other neighbourhoods since. ‘I love being around good food and good people, so I’m really looking forward to meeting our new neighbours in Brentford’ she says. We have partnered with the local Food with Like Community Pantry to donate baked goods at the end of the day to support their community food club. Come in and say hello to Beta and the team. 2 West Bradbury Yard, Brentford, TW8 8GJ

STRATEGIC PLACEMAKING #5 – INSPIRED ARCHITECTURE: RETAILERS REALLY DO LOOK AT WHAT’S ABOVE THEM! It really isn’t just about the ground floor window when it comes to attracting retailers into new developments. Retailers and restaurateurs are creative entrepreneurs that appreciate inspired architecture. In modern residential towers this can be hard to achieve when uniformity often dictates the exterior. Adding an icon, a totem or just an Instagramable feature can make a difference. Developers of large, mixed use projects are giving an increased level of focus to their “ground floor” spaces. They are after all the front door to all developments. Attracting the right occupiers into such spaces, that are going to be of benefit to the residents or office occupiers above is not straight forward, particularly if they already have negative feelings towards occupying a “concrete box”. An ambitious, aspirational design to the overall development can be very persuasive, to the extent that the retailer will actively seek to be associated with it. To learn more about what it takes to create a successful retail development contact Tony Moore at Shackleton. #strategicplacemaking #coaldropsyard #skypoollondon [Photos: Heatherwick studio designed the flamboyant “kissing roof” at Argent LLP’s Coal Drops Yard, occupied by Samsung & Skypool London at Embassy Gardens, Ballymore.]

Farewell to Poster Hauss & hello Next Door Records! Our client opened Poster Hauss on Stoke Newington Road one week before COVID-19 forced us all into lockdown. Since then, Diego and the team have been committed to hosting exciting and emerging performance talent, creating a cornerstone for musicians/ comedians and filmmakers alike. After years in the UK, Diego wanted to return home to Argentina and we were happy to assign his lease for him. So, who will be opening up in 182 Stoke Newington Road? None other than Next Door Records. With one existing site in Shepherd's Bush, this marks and exciting expansion plan. It was a pleasure working with the trio and we wish them the best of luck. #nextdoorrecords #independentrecordstore #stokenewington
