Another great Tech Talk at the Digital Skills Hub yesterday, answering the question of "What is #AI and how scared should we be?" Some discussion points and takeaways included: ⭐ AI is a hard to define umbrella term for a range of different systems (from driverless cars to image generation to spell checking). ⭐ We should talk and think about Narrow AI - practical tools for specific purposes. ⭐ We've been here before. AI has been around since the 1950s. Going through various AI Summers (of increased hype) and Winters (of subsequent disappointment). ⭐ We can view jobs as collections of work tasks. Some tasks are more easily automated than others. It is unlikely that entire jobs will be replaced by AI, but most will be modified by them. Thank you so much to everyone who attended, and our expert panelists David Burnet, Maxine Gee, and Tom Davis

🚀 Strengthening Dorset’s Workforce for the Future! 🚀 Last week at the Digital Skills Hub, the Dorset LEP hosted a pivotal session on the region’s labour market. Rebecca Davies, Head of Enterprise, Skills & Industry at Dorset LEP shed light on Dorset’s current employment landscape, outlining trends, challenges, and opportunities that will shape the future workforce. Here are the key takeaways: 🔹 Labour Market Resilience: Despite economic challenges like inflation and supply chain disruptions, sectors such as tech, healthcare, and green energy are growing in Dorset, driving demand for skilled workers. 🌱💻 🔹 Bridging the Skills Gap: With a shortage in digital and technical skills (like data analysis and cybersecurity), soft skills like adaptability and communication are also highly valued. Dorset LEP is partnering with local institutions to align educational offerings with employer needs. 🏫🤝 🔹 Opportunities for Youth & Career Changers: From apprenticeships and vocational training to STEM initiatives, Dorset is creating pathways for young people and career switchers to step into high-demand fields. 🎓🔄 🔹 Building a Green and Inclusive Economy: Future initiatives focus on digital skills access for all, partnerships with industry leaders, and sustainable job growth in the green economy. 🌍💼 Dorset LEP’s commitment to innovation, local talent, and regional resilience is paving the way for a dynamic future workforce!
