This July, join us in committing to one less plastic! We're encouraging you to swap out one single-use plastic item (like a water bottle or grocery bag) for something reusable. Did you know these bites were most likely made by turtles? 🐢 Join us in making a small, simple change that will move us toward a more sustainable future and a healthier Bay for all. 🌊 On July 27, we’ll also be teaming up with Greens Bayou Coalition and other Houston-area organizations to host a community cleanup at two sites - Brock Adventure Park and Brock Park Baseball Field. Register for the cleanup at https://lnkd.in/gxW2jq7U then #PledgeOneLessPlastic at https://lnkd.in/gEhVJc-K #Sustainability #ProtectTheBay

We welcomed 18 new citizen scientists to our Dolphin Research Team! This dedicated group completed a 2-day training workshop to prepare them to volunteer at our Dolphin Research and Outreach Station at Seawolf Park in Galveston. They will collect dolphin observation data from land and engage with park visitors to educate them about the effects of fishing debris on wildlife. This initiative is a part of the Galveston Bay Dolphin Research Program - a partnership between Galvetson Bay Foundation and the University of Houston-Clear Lake-EIH. Thank you to the Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees and Gulf of Mexico Alliance for their support!

“The Bay is a fundamental part in the functionality of Texas’ ecosystem. Because of its’ beauty, we want to preserve it as much as we can. We want to be cautious with what we do with our trash/pollution and be as environmentally friendly as possible” – Participating Student 🌊 This is just one reflection from a student participating in our educational field programs. We’ve reached over 830 students participating in either our Students in Action or Field Experience programs this year, where students learn more about the Bay ecosystem via hands-on explorations, such as testing water quality, catching aquatic life, birding, and more! The Students in Action also added a service-learning component to their day, assisting with trash cleanups, nurdle collection, or oyster reef monitoring. We’ve loved having these experiences with students across the region. Thank you to our sponsors for providing full or partial program scholarships to public schools this spring! We couldn’t reach as many students without your help! As the hurricane season approaches Reliant Energy would like to remind you to bring loose, lightweight objects inside that could become projectiles in high winds (e.g., patio furniture, garbage cans); anchor objects that would be unsafe to bring inside (e.g., propane tanks); and take some time to trim or remove trees close enough to fall on the building. ⚡ 🌳 With the larger impact of climate change being felt more and more each year, you can help offset your carbon emissions by signing up for the Reliant EcoShare (SM) program! Not only that, but in partnership with EarthShare Texas, you’ll also be supporting more than 30 local environmental organizations for a Texas-sized impact! ⭐ Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/g3SQC-Zp

We’ve had an amazing time with our Wetland Connections students this school year! 🌾 🌊 Over 1,500 middle and high school students across the Houston region grew smooth cordgrass on their campuses, identified the types and importance of wetlands in our region, examined organisms that call the wetlands home, became environmental engineers, learned how to use scientific equipment, discovered careers in environmental science, explored our Sweetwater Preserve in Galveston, and made lasting connections with the local ecosystem. Many thanks to our amazing partner teachers and schools, our wonderful education team, and our funders who allow us to provide program scholarships to our public schools!
