Projects like our backpack distribution, mobile gardens and park bench fitness program are an important part of how we help improve the health of our communities. Recently, we had a visit from the Indiana Department of Health, who provided us with a valuable grant to help support these projects. Our statewide program coordinator, Sarah Wewe, was able to see all the projects in action, and here's what she had to say: "You are making such an impact in your community, and we are very thankful to partner with you and see the amazing work you are doing with the grant money." When our Colleagues actively listen and respond to our patients, magic happens. When hospice social worker Claire Gisel learned that her patient never fulfilled her lifelong dream of seeing and touching the ocean, she got to work. Claire secured a four-day trip to Florida for the patient and her husband to stay at a hotel on the beach, dip her toes in the ocean and watch sunrises over the water. Thanks to Claire's compassionate attention, the patient and her husband were able to make priceless memories before the patient passed away. For that reason, Claire received the Commitment to Compassion Award at the 2023 MACademy Awards. Congratulations, Claire! #CommunityHealthcare

Congratulations to the After Hours Committee for receiving the Innovation Group Award at the 2023 MACademy Awards! The committee leveraged the power of data to develop metrics and action items to improve the experiences of Colleagues who work outside of the Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. routine. Congratulations to Alex Myers on receiving the Education Award at the 2023 MACademy Awards! Alex was responsible for developing the curriculum for new educational programs for Colleagues, including working with presenters, scheduling and presenting the programs. Rolling out one program in a calendar year is impressive — Alex rolled out three: "Living our Values" for new hires, a new manager orientation program and a development program called Everday Leader! Congratulations to Becky Athey on receiving the Hometown Hero Award at the 2023 MACademy Awards! Becky earned this award for saving the life of her friend and Colleague, Beth, as she arrived for her night shift. As the pair walked in for their shift, Beth collapsed and became unresponsive. Becky immediately called for help and performed CPR until the code team arrived. Her quick thinking, clinical knowledge and skills helped save her friend's life. Congratulations, Becky, on this well-deserved award! #CommunityHealthcare

Our community gardens are expanding! Thanks to grant funding from the Indiana Department of Health and partnerships with organizations like Church Community Services' Seed to Feed program, Purdue Extension, and AmeriCorps, the program has increased to 17 sites. This increase allows us to positively impact around 400 community members this summer. #CommunityHealthcare
