The City of Goodyear Public Works Department received the award for Best Safety Training Program for its holistic approach to a culture of safety, using 12 safety training and awareness programs, Standard Operating Procedure training, and its use of safety software systems. "Our employee safety training program is a foundational pillar on which we have built a culture of safety within the organization,” said Operations Readiness Coordinator Charles Schneider. "Seeing our Solid Waste Division recognized by SWANA is a testament to their hard work in keeping employees trained in critical workplace safety programs." “It is an honor to receive this award, which reflects our team's dedication to enhancing safety training and equipping our staff to work smarter and safer every day,” said Solid Waste Superintendent Adam Kurtz. SWANA congratulates James Law of SCS Engineers for his election to president of the ISWA International Solid Waste Association. A long-time member of both SWANA and ISWA, Law is well-positioned to lead in this role. As a national member of ISWA, SWANA has a seat at the ISWA General Assembly to vote on the new officers and other business matters. SWANA Director of Applied Research, Jeremy O'Brien, PE, BCEE, spoke at the Association of State and Territorial Solid Waste Management Officials (ASTSWMO) Materials Management Workshop. The workshop focused on waste diversion, covering several topics related to recycling, organics management, and beneficial use. Jeremy participated in the panel ““How do we reach 50% Recycling Rate by 2030?” and shared SWANA research on recycling rates, contamination issues, and recycling behavior. The workshop brought together government representatives from all over. Jeremy connected with Glenn San Nicolas from Guam, member of the SWANA Pacific Basin Chapter.
