The UK Screen Investment Programme, in partnership with Hertfordshire Futures, is a new national initiative to attract the next wave of capital investment into the UK’s flourishing film and TV sectors. Globally-renowned companies such as Sky, Pinewood, Warner Bros and Disney are all based in the UK while major cities such as Bristol, Belfast, Cardiff, Manchester, Liverpool and London all have screen clusters with outstanding potential for growth. The screen industry has brought more than £17.4 billion into the UK economy and directly employs approximately 300,000 people. The programme will build on this success and culminate in the UK Screen Investment Summit taking place in June 2025. The programme is a collaborative venture and partners are drawn from across the screen industry.

Hundreds of creative businesses and projects across the UK will benefit from a £60 million package of government support to help them grow as part of a major boost to the economy – marking the first step of the Government’s Sector Plan for the creative industries. Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden has highlighted the company’s outstanding successes of 2024 – and thanked its “team and community” for making them happen. In the year Warner Bros celebrated its 101st anniversary, film blockbusters such as #BeetlejuiceBeetlejuice and #VenomTheLastDance were released along with comedy TV series, #TheFranchise. #HouseoftheDragon Season 2 and #AQuietPlaceDayOne were filmed at the studios in Leavesden, Hertfordshire, in 2024. Industry talent was bolstered and recognised at the British Film Designers Guild (BFDG) 13th Production Design Awards with #WarnerBros. supporting the annual event including The Peter Lamont – Spotlighting New Talent Award which was presented to Amy Herring – Junior Draughtsperson, by Emily Stillman, Senior Vice President, Warner Bros. An increased rate of tax relief is now available for visual effects expenditure in the UK. UK Screen Alliance have long campaigned for a significant improvement in the screen sector incentives to allow the UK’s visual effects (#VFX) sector to flourish and achieve its full potential for growth. VFX spending in the UK now attracts a net rebate of 29.25%, and is exempt from the overall 80% cap on spending eligible for the Audio Visual Expenditure Credit (#AVEC) – the current tax system for #film, high-end #TV, children’s TV and #animation.
