Yesterday, AHBL attended a construction site tour at the new Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital hosted by the Layton/Abbott Construction Team. The outreach event welcomed Tacoma Public Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE) students. The students were given a tour of the construction site and gained valuable insight into what it is like to work in the trades within the A/E/C industry. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐄𝐭𝐨𝐧? The north-south divide is at an all time high, with the government recently listing 55 'coldspots' for education, with many of these being in the north of the country. Dudley, Middlesborough, and Oldham were among 3 of these 'coldspots' with the weakest education outcomes, meaning students were leaving with lower prospects than the rest of the country. However, the DfE recently approved plans with Eton College and Star Academies for a partnership of 3 sixth forms to be built in these towns to increase the engagement with education in these areas. Eton will fund £1 million a year per college on top of current funding levels, with the aim of helping students from deprived backgrounds in the north secure places at top universities. It's great to see Eton recognise their own privilege and the north-south divide to help children from deprived areas receive extra funding. Is this just a PR stunt for Eton or a step in the right direction?

Not Just a Pet Theory: In Litigation, Details Matter In this otherwise straightforward case of alleged wrongful termination, the central issue was whether the claimant employee had told her supervisor over a call that she did not intend to return to Singapore for an extended time. If so, that would justify terminating the claimant's employment. Among (many) other things, the supervisor gave evidence that during their call, the claimant had mentioned buying bunnies for her children in Ireland. As far as I can tell, the claimant did not contest or address this seemingly minor and irrelevant detail. Yet, it was a detail that weighed on the judge's mind. He said (at [28]): "One does not buy pet rabbits in Ireland during a temporary stay of less than two months. That is more consistent with the defendant's case that the claimant was intending to remain in Ireland for an extended period." This was not a decisive point, but it certainly did not help the claimant. A good reminder to all dispute resolution specialists that even the tiniest details can cause problems to multiply faster than rabbits. #law #employment #litigation #disputes #pet #rabbits

Recently the UK has faced a daunting crisis that has affected the safety and functionality of its schools. The RAAC crisis has led to the closure of more than 150 schools due to unsafe concrete structures. In the midst of this upheaval, it's crucial to find immediate and effective solutions. Fews Temporary Buildings can offer a lifeline to schools in need of: ➡ temporary classrooms ➡ canteens ➡ assembly halls ➡ sports halls and gynasiums ➡ toilet blocks Here's a blog and video demonstrating what we can offer: https://lnkd.in/eYnZHFC8 #raac #schoolsafety #schools

An excellent initiative with proven positive results.
157 Southfield School, Kettering Year 11s and 30 staff are now on their way to Whitemoor Lakes Activity & Training Centre in Staffordshire for our annual 4 day revision/activity weekend. This will be the ninth year that we have run this activity and each year, the majority of our students claim that this was one of the most successful activities in boosting their GCSE results in the core subjects. Students also comment on how much fun they had and the lasting memories they created whilst there. As part of our new Academy Trust and our ongoing collaboration with other schools, Kingsthorpe College and Moulton School & Science College will also be sending some of their students on the trip. Have a good time everyone and #ReachYourFullPotential

Provision Mapping will clarify & help schools to identify clearly supports & resources provided to students in our schools, It will also help to identify gaps in the system ,well overdue initiative. Well done to all involved.
ETBI has partnered with Mary Immaculate College, Ireland to host Provision Mapping Induction for almost 140 schools in locations across the country and will introduce schools to the provision mapping process. This will allow schools to identify, list and evaluate the evidence-informed provisions and supports in place for students across the Continuum of Support in one summary document, which is called a Provision Map. Find out more about the event, which is now closed to registration at this link. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eiZhHnzV Johanna Fitzgerald NCSE Department of Education — Ireland #ETBStrongerTogether #leadinginclusiveschools #provisionmapping Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board (KCETB) Louth & Meath ETB Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board (LWETB) Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim Education and Training Board Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board City of Dublin ETB Dublin and Dún Laoghaire ETB (DDLETB) Kildare and Wicklow ETB Galway and Roscommon ETB Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB)
