🎖️ Supporting Our Texas Veterans: Resources and Opportunities 🎖️ Hello LinkedIn Community, As we remember those on the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings, we continue to honor and support our veterans, it's crucial to spread the word about the resources and opportunities available to those who have served our country, particularly in Texas. Here are some valuable programs and initiatives designed to assist our Texas veterans: 1. **Texas Veterans Commission (TVC)** - **Employment Services**: TVC offers job placement assistance, resume building, and job fairs specifically for veterans. - **Education Benefits**: Learn about the Hazlewood Act, which provides eligible Texas veterans with education benefits at public institutions. - **Health Care Advocacy**: TVC helps veterans navigate the VA healthcare system to ensure they receive the medical care they deserve. 2. **Veterans Land Board (VLB)** - **Home Loans**: VLB provides low-interest land, home, and home improvement loans to Texas veterans. - **Veterans Homes**: Quality long-term care homes are available across Texas for veterans and their families. - **Cemeteries**: The VLB also offers free burial services in state veterans cemeteries. 3. **Operation Finally Home** - This nonprofit organization builds mortgage-free homes for veterans and their families, providing much-needed stability and security. 4. **Combined Arms** - Combined Arms is a collaborative impact organization that connects veterans to holistic resources, including mental health services, professional development, and social support networks. 5. **Hiring Our Heroes** - Through job fairs, fellowship programs, and digital resources, Hiring Our Heroes helps veterans transition into civilian careers. 6. **Texas Workforce Commission (TWC)** - TWC provides veteran-specific career services, including the Texas Veterans Leadership Program which helps veterans reintegrate into the civilian workforce. 7. **Wounded Warrior Project** - Offering a range of programs from mental health support to career counseling, Wounded Warrior Project is dedicated to the well-being of veterans. 8. **Mission Continues** - This organization empowers veterans to continue their service through community impact projects, fostering leadership skills and civic engagement. Skills for Rhode Island's Future is committed to supporting jobseekers from all walks of life in their search for meaningful employment. We do our best work when we partner with others, whether we collaborate with other community organizations or across teams within our own!   Last Thursday, May 2nd, our Client Services, Talent Acquisition, Career Services, RI Small Business HUB, and workABILITY teams participated in a multi-employer Veteran's Job Fair at Community College of Rhode Island's Knight Campus in Warwick, hosted by The Providence VA VBA Regional Office, Veteran Readiness & Employment (VRE) Division, CCRI Student Veterans, and the Rhode Island Department of Labor & Training. The event connected veterans and others with career opportunities and resources, and our SkillsRI teams personally met with over 30 jobseekers and almost every employer in attendance!   Events like these are essential for informing and supporting those who may have barriers to employment, like Rhode Island's veteran population, and you never know where or when any given team member may lend specialized support or connect for an opportunity for work outside of their typical purview. Bill Harold, Supported Employment Coordinator for workABILITY, spotted and caught up with DATTCO, INC, a transportation company that attended the event looking to recruit new hires.  DATTCO recently partnered with and successfully hired a workABILITY candidate for a role as a School Bus Monitor/Aide, so Bill took the opportunity to explore ways to collaborate further by introducing DATTCO's hiring team to members of SkillsRI's Client Services team for additional sourcing and roles.   #SkillsRI and #workABILITY thank all of our community partners, employer partners, and the sponsors of this event for their support in providing resources to the veteran community and so many others! As we quickly head into the last part of the year, we prepare to pay homage to the brave women and men of our beloved military. In advance of #VeteransDay2023, we stand committed to helping the military community and their families be better prepared for transitioning into the civilian workforce. To that end, I’m proud to announce that my 3PT team and I are once again delivering the Salute to Service Veterans Career Development workshop presented by #Boeing, in partnership with the Dallas Cowboys. If you’re active-duty, a veteran, or a family member, please join us Thursday, November 2nd from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm CT at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Our workshop will help attendees plan, prepare, and execute a comprehensive and intentional career search strategy. Food, snacks, and beverages will be provided. There is NO cost to attend. Our session is interactive, inspiring, and full of valuable information to help our veteran community thrive in today’s workforce. In addition to the workshop, we encourage all attendees to bring their resume, as we’ll also have a career fair with companies from across the DFW metroplex. It’s your chance to meet and speak with hiring managers from these organizations who may have the right opportunity for you. Does success grow on trees? If you consider that success has to cultivate and it’s in the eye of the beholder. Your definition of success varies from my definition. I believe that perseverance is one of the Major pillars of success. Why did the turtle win the race because yes, yes slow and steady wins the race. Let’s actually dissect the tortoise and the rabbit. The rabbit had all of the talent, speed but the rabbit overcompensated and got complacent. Here comes the turtle the odds are stacked against the turtle but through perseverance they overcame the challenge. So yes success is grown and cultivated ================================ It was too cold for a happy dance but as I mentioned a huge local win for KGES King Global Enterprise Solutions we place our first military spouse Rebecca Hayes started with Acquisition Experts on Monday. Didn’t get without perseverance and local support. Matthew Feehan I appreciate the lead. Thanks to the local #Eastern #NC small business community and veteran tribe. We are only getting started 2024 has more opportunities around the corner.
