💨💡 Ramboll proudly participated in the recent Brazil Offshore Wind Summit 2024, where key industry leaders gathered for a round table meeting hosted by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and Global Offshore Wind Alliance (GOWA).   Our representative, Juliana Mantovani, talked about Ramboll’s current role in the rising Brazilian offshore wind industry and addressed current challenges for the permitting process and development of offshore wind farms in #Brazil.   The round table meeting was chaired by Amisha Patel (GWEC/GOWA), and included Ben Backwell (GWEC’s Chief Executive Officer), Thiago Barral (National Secretary of Energy Transition and Planning Ministry), Elbia Gannoum (ABEEólica - Associação Brasileira de Energia Eólica Onshore e Offshore e Novas Tecnologias ), and key representatives from banks, developers and manufacturers.   Ramboll was honored to contribute to the dialogue and exchange insights with such a seasoned and accomplished group of professionals. What a way to kick off All-Energy Exhibition and Conference! As announced this morning, we’ve joined forces with ports and harbours throughout the country as part of Scottish Offshore Wind Ports Alliance (SOWPA). Scotland’s offshore wind industry is growing rapidly and despite high levels of optimism, we recognise this growth will create industry-wide challenges. Last week France announced (https://lnkd.in/dR-qQHii) a bold movement on Offshore wind. After a long period of public debate, it communicated its next targets: - 9.2GW in the next AO10 round - 4GW bottom-fixed and 5.2GW floating, spread out in the 4 offshore wind areas with MENM leading in terms of capacity. Process to be launched in 2025 - 6.3GW in future AO11+ rounds - 4GW bottom-fixed and 2.3GW floating, spread out in the 4 offshore wind areas. Process to be launched before 2030 - More than 16,000km2 (80+GW!!!) identified for future developments for the 2030-40 decade. Most of the area for floating wind and in the NAMO region So, where are we now? We are thrilled to announce that Tim Fischer, our Executive Director of Global Wind, has been elected to join the Steering Group of the Global Offshore Wind Alliance (GOWA). This alliance between public and private stakeholders is dedicated to increasing global offshore wind capacity. Having joined GOWA last year as the first consultancy company, Ramboll aims to make impactful contributions. We will emphasise the importance of integrating sustainability into auction processes to spur innovation and accelerate the build-out of offshore wind. Tim is eager to bring his expertise to the alliance that unites 14 countries and leading industry figures to reach ambitious targets of 380 GW offshore wind by 2030 and an impressive 2,000 GW by 2050. He advocates for a fair and effective framework to moderate the process between actors in the complex international offshore wind landscape, from developers and suppliers, to society-at-large. GOWA is a vital global platform to advance these ideals.   “The global offshore wind industry faces a trilemma. It has to strike a balance between interests from investors, developers, suppliers, and the general public. I am a firm believer that, with a more balanced market design and herein added sustainability criteria into the auction scheme, we can foster more innovation, create a diverse and fair competition landscape and ultimately improve on the speed we can grow this business. But it all begins with an improved and fair framework that needs to work globally. Back in June we thoroughly enjoyed attending the RenewableUK Global Offshore Wind event in Manchester, where we had the pleasure of connecting with key players in the industry. The Rt Hon Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, for the newly formed UK Government was in attendance and the keynote speaker at the opening session on the Wednesday conference proceedings. We at Horizon Bridge are very excited to see the roll-out of the new Government's plans as described very energetically by Ed during his address. There was much talk of support for the offshore wind industry and encouragement for us as a sector to help tackle many of the nation's biggest agenda items. We engaged in insightful discussions with offshore wind farm developers, cable manufacturers and installers, exploring the latest advancements and future possibilities with Horizon Bridge. It's safe to say the feedback we've received from this and other similar events, is hugely motivating. Building a business isn't easy, however, we know that with the team we have established, we will solve a significant issue within the offshore wind industry and beyond!
