- NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), a Government of India (GoI) company under Department of Space (DoS) and the commercial arm of ISRO, and Space Machines Company (SMC), an Australian-Indian in-space servicing firm have signed the Dedicated Launch Service Agreement for the launch of their second Optimus spacecraft slated for launch on-board NSIL/ISRO’s Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) during 2026. - Optimus spacecraft weighing 450kg, is the largest Australian-designed and built spacecraft so far - The agreement comes as part of the Space MAITRI मैत्री mission (Mission for Australia-India’s Technology, Research and Innovation). - Through this collaboration, SMC, NSIL, and mission partners aim to spearhead the development of solutions to mitigate space debris, raise global awareness, and revolutionise in-space services, ensuring the long-term sustainability of space. https://lnkd.in/gu72H6FB

France has set a world record by establishing a stable laser communication link between a nano-satellite and a commercial ground station. The experiment, involving the French Defense Innovation Agency (AID) and New Space companies Unseenlabs and Cailabs, used the Keraunos satellite to test innovative communication technologies. Optical communication offers significant advantages over radio, such as faster speeds, enhanced discretion, and fewer regulatory hurdles. 🚀 The HERA mission, part of European Space Agency - ESA's planetary defence strategy, is preparing to explore the Didymos binary asteroid system, including its smaller moon, Dimorphos. Scheduled for launch today, October 7 at 10:52 a.m. EDT (14:52 UTC) aboard a Falcon 9 from Cape Canaveral, Florida, HERA will arrive at Dimorphos in late 2026. The mission will focus on studying the aftermath of NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s DART mission, which successfully altered Dimorphos' orbit in September 2022 by 33 minutes after a deliberate impact. HERA’s objective is to gather critical data to enhance our understanding of asteroid deflection techniques, a key component of planetary defence. The aim of the European Space Agency - ESA mission, launched in April 2023, is to study Jupiter and its icy moons. The mission has already achieved two major milestones: a first flyby of the Moon and Earth and the first maneuver using Earth's gravity to redirect its trajectory toward a flyby of Venus in August 2025. The video shows the sequence of images captured by the spacecraft during the maneuver. GOIMEK, in collaboration with Sener Aerospace & Defence, manufactured the main reflector of the spacecraft's medium gain antenna (MGAMA), and its auxiliary elements.
