🎓RePIC MSc - Redesigning the Post-Industrial City: How can students, communities, and city organisations respond to city challenges? 🌆 RePIC master’s students explored this question during UNIC (European University of Cities in Post-Industrial Transition) CityLabs Week (6th-10th January). Led by University College Cork, 44 students applied urban theory and co-creation skills to tackle real-world challenges in Cork city. Students engaged with municipal actors, embedding their learning in the Local Economic and Community Plan, 2024-2028. Activities included visits to Shandon, Douglas Street, Barrack Street, Tramore Valley Park, Togher, and the City Docklands. Applications are now open for 2025 entry to the RePIC Joint Master’s programme, offering an international experience across four European universities and cities. Limerick Twenty Thirty and the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the 10-acre Cleeves Riverside Quarter! This exciting new plan will bring up to 1,700 students, along with student accommodation and college lecture spaces, to the development. In total, the project will include around 500 accommodation units, with nearly half dedicated to student housing. The designs for the residential elements and public realm are already complete, and the addition of the university campus will further enhance the scheme. In 2025, we will submit the first of a two-phased planning application, which will include public realm, housing, and heritage works. Phase 2 will follow, featuring the LTT-TUS partnership.
