Building certifications such as these can help us set internal sustainability targets, align with Green Bond Principles, support stakeholder goals, and benchmark progress on a project and firmwide basis. We're able to achieve this through partnerships with global organizations – like the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), ENERGY STAR, UK Green Building Council (UKGBC), Building Research Establishment (BRE), DGNB German Sustainable Building Council, BOMA International, and Green Building Council Brasil - GBC Brasil. Do you find it challenging to navigate the range of voluntary ESG schemes? Companies and financial institutions across the globe have used green building certification to verify the sustainability credentials of projects for decades. However, there are inconsistencies in the application of metrics and standards, and ESG schemes are being used differently by different groups of actors. In the latest factsheet in the World Green Building Council #SustainableFinance series, we explore entity and asset-level voluntary schemes for energy and emissions in the global real estate sector. Read the factsheet to: ✅ compare the difference between entity and asset-level schemes, and ✅ explore the key international voluntary ESG schemes in real estate. With increasing financial and non-financial disclosure regulations, as well as a host of climate commitments from corporate and financial actors, see our factsheet to understand how we can use ESG schemes to benchmark, report and verify our progress, and create a resilient and decarbonised future for the built environment. https://lnkd.in/exQPmykV While you’re there, also check out our factsheets on EU Taxonomy, including Nearly Zero Energy Buildings, Major renovations and Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs). #BuildingTheTransition #ClimateWeekNYC Sweden Green Building Council, SBC GREECE (Sustainable Building Council Greece) UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) U.S. Green Building Council Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC)

Continuing on the theme of simplifying things. It's great to see our fact sheet finally published! The built environment has a mature Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) ecosystem relative to other sectors. Its easy to get lost with a large number of voluntary programs, standards, and certification schemes. As such - if you want a very concise overview of entity (company/ portfolio) level (eg SBTi, GRESB, even ISSB amongst others) and asset level schemes (Green Building rating Tools) look no further! This factsheet is published by The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) Sustainable Finance Taskforce, through the dream team of the ESG working group, a global gang of like minded and well meaning trouble makers, including Jorge Chapa, Georgina Smit, Chris Pyke, Hanane El Hayek and myself, with Julie Emmrich (having the unenviable task of maintaining a semblance of order). Head over to the WorldGBC website and take a look. Link to the factsheet in the below post.

Recently we hosted a roundtable lunch with industry experts in ESG, sustainability and investment management and one theme was clear – as Australia’s population continues to grow, there’s a need for sustainable residential buildings. The built environment is the world’s single largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions accounting for almost 40% of total global emissions (according to the IEA). Read our white paper to understand the key themes discussed, including the drivers of the sustainable building industry, the current challenges faced and what solutions Australia could adopt from other countries to reduce the long-term impacts of the residential real estate sector: https://lnkd.in/gSNneGPu

Decarbonise Now for a Sustainable Future! We all know we're in a climate emergency, and the built environment plays a big part in it 🌍. As we push towards achieving net zero and making our cities more resilient, decarbonisation must be at the heart of our decision-making. At the recent RICS conference in Northern Ireland, the focus was on sustainability and how professionals in the built environment can work together to address the sector's challenges. We heard many success stories, but it's clear there's more we can do. Gathering for these discussions helps us tackle industry issues collectively, and build a sustainable future. According to the latest RICS Global Sustainability Report, around 60% of UK respondents saw a rise in investor demand for green buildings over the past year 📈. Despite this, 43% globally reported they don't measure embodied carbon on projects. We must make carbon measurement common practice. Tools like RICS' Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA) guide the industry toward lower carbon designs and help quantify construction impacts. By understanding and managing our emissions better, we can build more sustainable communities. Let's drive change together! How do you think we can further integrate decarbonisation into our daily practices? Share your thoughts below or visit netzeroevolution.com to learn more. #Decarbonisation #Sustainability #NetZero
