🌱 £40million for Nature🌱 🌿 Nattergal has successfully completed its seed funding round, raising £40m ($53m) in equity. This is one of the largest seed funding rounds in the Nature restoration sector and a significant milestone in scaling up our operations. 💼 We are delighted to welcome Aviva as a key institutional investor, with Claudine Blamey, Aviva's Chief Sustainability Officer, joining our Board as an advisor. This partnership marks the beginning of a broader strategic relationship, aimed at leveraging private finance to address the UK’s Nature crisis, whilst also benefiting local communities. 🌍 As one of the most Nature-depleted countries globally, the UK faces an urgent challenge. Without action, we could see a 12% drop in GDP due to Nature-related financial risks. Together, Nattergal and Aviva are committed to demonstrating leadership by aligning on initiatives like the 30% by 2030 UK Nature protection commitments and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). 🔗 Read our press release in full here: https://lnkd.in/dQysmZmC

As part of our #BCorp commitment, and to demonstrate our #ESG credentials, Treveth is proud to publish our first Impact Report. Since 2019, Treveth has built a solid track record by planning and implementing successful developments that address local needs related to housing, employment, and regeneration, all while advancing Cornwall’s ambitions for achieving net zero emissions by showcasing leadership in environmental sustainability. With support from the team at The Good Economy, this is a baseline report covering the period from Treveth’s establishment in April 2019 to March 31, 2023. Future reports will provide annual updates on the company’s impact performance. The report concludes that Treveth serves as a good example of a place-based impact investor. Place-based impact investing (PBII), refers to investment that aims to deliver financial returns and positive local impacts, focusing on specific places to enhance economic resilience, prosperity, and sustainable development. Treveth’s strategic projects show potential to drive regeneration in Cornish towns and cities. Each project is underpinned by strong placemaking principles and considers environmental best practice and social value creation. The Sustainable Finance Coalition's current incubator is developing the Building Blocks and implementation pathway to an outcomes fund focused on the marine sector. Whilst there is no standard definition of an 'outcomes fund', in broad terms, it is a commitment to pay for social or environmental outcomes, rather than inputs or activities. The niche group of experts in our incubator are actively working through existing frameworks, evidence and ecosystem challenges to enable an increased flow of funding to ocean-linked organisations to facilitate scaled impact in the marine sector. The significant VC investment into nature restoration provider Nattergal Ltd represents a point of inflection for global Nature restoration - bringing in business and creating a strong business model for boots-on-the-ground restoration of degraded land. With a few exceptions, #NatureRestoration has historically been funded by philanthropy or governments, while business has ultimately been out of balance with the natural world and only paying lip service to nature. But, catalyzed by regulation this can shift. In this case, the 2021 Environment Act, #BiodiversityNetGain (BNG) in England, which requires housing developers to deliver a minimum of 10% increase in biodiversity compared to what was on site before, to achieve planning approval. With Aviva's participation, this deal also highlights the significant risks of nature degradation to our economy (as well as our souls, well-being, and intergenerational responsibilities) and reflects greater agency amongst large corporations to #ActOnNature. For the #CleantechSpace, regulations like this mean greater demand pull for: 🛰 Monitoring and Assessment technologies e.g. eDNA or satellite-enabled remote biomass analysis 🌊 Prevention technologies e.g. Wastewater treatment or smart fishing nets 🐅 Expertise and capacity for nature restoration 🌎 Funding for greater research to enable better understanding of the natural world We don't have all the tools on our tool belt yet or the global expertise to avoid inaccuracies or mistakes. But we have absolutely run out of time to ignore nature restoration any longer... Huge congratulations to the Nattergal Ltd team, I'm excited to see what you do next!

What does it take for nature investing to go into the mainstream? At the TTI Nature Investment Summit on Tuesday 11 June in London, I will join a panel moderated by Alessa Berg on current challenges and opportunities for #assetmanagers to invest in #nature. #naturalcapital is critical. The loss of biodiversity on earth is not just an environmental issue; it's a ticking time bomb to the stability of our civilisation and the economic system that supports it. We humans and our civilization are entirely dependent on the biodiversity of Earth. Recent updates indicate that up to 55% of global GDP, equivalent to an estimated $58 trillion, is moderately or highly dependent on nature. The panel: Chris Gorell Barnes, Founding Partner at Ocean 14 Capital (Ocean) Erik Bruun Bindslev, Operating Partner at Regenerate Asset Management(Soil) Ingrid Kukuljan, Head of Impact & Sustainable Investing at Federated Hermes Limited Peter Bachmann, Managing Director, Sustainable Infrastructure at Gresham House To attend: https://lnkd.in/etPXRc65 Top Tier Impact Savory Institute Ryan Cameron Ben Stafford Nicholas Burlington Addy Windsor-Clive David Bates FERI Climate-KIC European Commission European Investment Fund (EIF) European Parliament European Investment Bank (EIB) EBG Investment Solutions Yasutoshi Miyamoto EthiFinance Buyck Family Advisory Office Claus Schultze Alice Drooghmans VGV Verwaltungsgesellschaft für Versorgungswerke mbH Dale Galvin Milena Bertram Finance in Motion #regenerativeleadership #impactinvesting #regenerativeagriculture

#ICYMI on Cool Stuff with Amina: MIC’s Impact Investing Associate, Amina Sam, recently met with Orlando Valdes and Jack Howell from ION Water – a water optimization company, to tell us about their work improving water efficiency. ION Water has helped reduce utility costs for Fortune 500 and mid-market companies and is now working with prominent names in affordable housing. ION’s Water Event Evaluation System not only counts gallons for billing purposes but also evaluates every water event at a property to detect leaks and diagnose their causes. With over 240 billion gallons of water wasted in affordable and multifamily housing, the ION Water approach creates impactful opportunities for both our planet’s health and for operators’ bottom lines.
