On September 5, 2024, the Nasarawa State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Society for Family Health Nigeria’s A360 Nigeria project, held the Reproductive Health Technical Working Group (TWG) meeting at Tazu Luxury Hotel in Lafia. The focus of the meeting was on the adoption of the Counselling for Choice (C4C) approach as the standard tool for family planning counselling across the state. In attendance at the meeting, were the Permanent Secretary Nasarawa State Ministry of Health , Directors from the Ministry of Health, key partners, and health professionals. SFH presented evidence on the effectiveness of C4C, emphasizing its client-centred approach to family planning counselling. This generated positive discussions, with participants recognizing the need for its state-wide adoption to enhance the quality of family planning services. The Permanent Secretary acknowledged the benefits of C4C and confirmed the state's readiness to adopt it as a standard tool. He also directed that a memo be circulated to all health facilities in the state, formalizing the adoption of C4C. The adoption of C4C represents a significant step towards institutionalizing A360 Nigeria high impact interventions and improving reproductive health services, with the goal of increasing contraceptive uptake and better health outcomes for women and adolescents in Nasarawa State. I Participated in the Homabay county #stakeholders meeting,where I presented the achievements of the A360 program, highlighting significant milestones such as #increased access to reproductive health services for adolescents and youth, innovative outreach strategies, and #successful community engagement efforts. Additionally, I listened to presentations from other partners involved in Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health (AYSRH) work in Homabay County. These presentations provided valuable insights into various initiatives, challenges, and collaborative opportunities aimed at improving the health and well-being of young people in the county. Society for Family Health Nigeria - A360 Nigeria Project, held a Meaningful Adolescent Youth Engagement (MAYE) Summit in Nasarawa State yesterday, 30th of July, 2024. The summit brought together key stakeholders in the state including the Deputy speaker Nasarawa State house of Assembly who is a youth, Chairman house committee on youths and sports, Comissioner for youths and Sports Development, Commissioner of Special duties on humanitarian services, Social services and NGOs,Permanent Secretaries and Directors of the State Ministry of health youth-led organizations,CSOs and CBOs to establish a strong youth network, inaugurate youth champions, formulate a state based youth advisory committee, disseminate the A360s MAYE strategy for adoption and develop a MAYE alignment charter for the state. The inaugurated Youth Champions,included representatives from Youth council, Youth-led organizations, CSO and CBOsA360 project beneficiaries, A360 young service providers and so on pledged to champion MAYE activities in their respective communities, advocating for youth involvement in decision making processes and promoting initiatives that benefit the health and development of all young people. A 6- member Youth Advisory committee was also inaugurated, which included policy makers and relevant stakeholders in youth health and development in the state. The Summit presented an opportunity for youths to interact with policy makers and relevant stakeholders asking burning questions and make recommendations as regards to policies around adolescent health and development and also demand for the establishment of the Youth Development Commission in the State. Participants signed the MAYE integration charter, committing to the adoption and implementation of the MAYE strategy within their respective mandates, ensuring that young people’s ideas, perspectives, and contributions are integral to programs and policies that impact their lives and communities. In commemoration of International Youth Skills Day 2024, The Society for family health-A360 Nigeria Kano Team, collaborated with KASHAM Girls, Women, Youth, and Community Development Network, to organize a one-day training on July 20, 2024. The event aimed to empower 100 young people from diverse backgrounds, including those living with disabilities, to promote and sustainable development within and beyond Kano state. The training, focused on empowering participants with, leadership, advocacy, decision-making, ASRH and personal branding skills to improve their health and wellbeing holistically. Additionally, a session on gender norms and safeguarding was conducted by the A360 gender champion to raise awareness about gender stereotypes, promote gender equality, and educate participants on the importance of creating safe environments for all genders. This training aligns with component of the A360 MAYE strategy of empowering adolescents and young people with skills that would enable them become self-reliant and independent individuals in the society aiming towards sustainable development.
