About us
Founded in 1919, the Baytown Refinery began operation in 1920 and the Chemical Plant started up in 1940. The complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. It is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. Employing a workforce of approximately 7,000, the Baytown area sites are highly integrated which makes the plants and products more efficient. We are developing technologies to make cleaner fuels and are working together to operate more safely and reliably.
