At this week's Reuters Events Energy Transition Europe conference, Bobby Pecotic, Chief Officer for Product Definition and Offtake at CWP Global - Hydrogen, participated in a critical panel discussing Europe's path to net zero. Moderated by Deloitte's Daniel Grosvenor, the panel included Eirik Wærness (SVP & Chief Economist at Equinor), Kelly Azevedo Dent from Shell, and Emmanuelle Wargon of the French Energy Regulatory Authority in a discussion focused on driving investment where it's needed. CWP Global's Bobby Pecotic addressed the need for realistic carbon pricing as a fundamental driver of the energy transition. "Fossil fuels remain underpriced because their true societal costs, like CO2 emissions, aren't fully accounted for. The current carbon taxes in Europe are too low to drive a significant shift towards green molecules. Agreeing on the proper cost for carbon and the policy measures to pay for this is essential to driving deep decarbonization." This underscores the importance of aligning policy, capital flows, and technological advancements to achieve Europe's ambitious decarbonization goals. #EnergyTransition #NetZero #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #CWPGlobal

One of our two large-scale renewables-powered green hydrogen hubs in Australia, the Western Green Energy Hub (www.wgeh.com.au), yesterday announced signature of new Collaboration Agreement with the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), Korea’s largest energy utility. Building on the MOU signed in July 2023, this new agreement sets the stage for a detailed feasibility study for Stage 1 of the project, which aims to generate around 6GW of hybrid wind and solar power, and use that power to produce 330,000 tons per annum of zero-emissions green hydrogen. Tim Horneman, CWP Global's Regional President for the APAC region, and a member of the Board of Directors for the WGEH project, commented: "This new collaboration with KEPCO underscores the potential of the WGEH project to help build a corridor of new green industrial trade between Australia and the growing green fuels market in East Asia. By combining our renewable energy expertise with KEPCO’s extensive infrastructure experience, we're not just advancing a project, we're positioning Australia as a leader in green hydrogen." This new partnership aligns with Australia’s aspiration to decarbonise its trade balance sheet in line with the goal to achieve net zero GHG emissions by 2050, and demonstrates the value of deep cooperation with, and participation by, First Nations communities in projects to accelerate the energy transition. Uniquely, the Mirning People hold a 10 per cent shareholding and a permanent Board seat in the WGEH project’s development company. #GreenHydrogen #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #CWPGlobal #KEPCO #WGEH #EnergyTransition #Australia

CWP Global is excited to share news of the renewal of Major Project Status by the Australian Government for the 26GW Australian Renewable Energy Hub Project, which is located in the iron ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia (https://lnkd.in/gGc2QtnC). First granted in 2021, renewal of Major Project Status confirms the Federal Government’s strong support for the project as a major driver of decarbonisation in Australia’s highest emitting industrial region, and the emergence of a new industrial hub near Port Hedland for the production of green iron and green fuels. A recent report by Climate Energy Finance (https://lnkd.in/eA9cHSpP) estimates that Australia has the potential to double the value of its annual iron ore exports to $250 billion if it leverages Australia’s vast renewables and green hydrogen potential to process and add value to current raw iron ore rock exports through green hydrogen-powered production of Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) for delivery to steelmakers, mainly in Asia. Now majority-owned and operated by bp, AREH will comprise two main project sites: (i) an upstream wind and solar hub across 6,500 square kilometres of coastal desert land, which at full scale could produce 26GW of emissions-free power; and (ii) a hydrogen production and downstream processing facility within the Boodarie Strategic Industrial Area (SIA) (https://lnkd.in/exdTAPUt), with the potential to foster new industrial opportunities aligned with the Federal Government’s Future Made in Australia agenda (https://lnkd.in/dSxWnT6d), including green iron and green fuels. Critical to the success of the project will be Federal and WA Government support for Pilbara Green Link transmission lines (https://lnkd.in/gSr6_QdW) to enable the mining sector’s best use of one of the most scaleable renewable energy resources anywhere in the country. With international markets, investment sentiment and policy signals now moving in the right direction, we are working hard with bp and Intercontinental Energy, our partners on the project, to make the AREH dream a reality as quickly as possible.
