“It’s time for us to shift our mindset and recognise how each nation can play to its unique strengths to scale innovations and boost our joint impact.” 🌍 No single country can move the needle on the Sustainable Development Goals alone - but together it's a very different story. In her latest opinion piece, the Valley's CEO Christina Senn-Jakobsen, discusses the role of Innovation, Impact and Frontline Agricultural Nations in driving global food system transformation. 👉 Dive into full article article here: https://lnkd.in/dA_zU8y9 We'd love to know what you think in the comments 👇 #switzerland #foodsystemtransformation #foodinnovation #collaboration #SDGs

Pioneering future-proof food systems - together. The Valley team recently got together in Zurich to reconnect, reassess what we want to focus on in Q3 and Q4 and figure out how we can work together as effectively as possible to achieve our goals. Q1 and Q2 have been filled with exciting milestones: 🥤 Teaming up with Nestlé and Tetra Pak to explore the future of sustainable packaging in a national full-day summit. 🛒 Launching the Retail Shelf initiative and receiving 100+ startup applications from 17 countries 👋 Welcoming Marie-France Tschudin as the new President of the SFNV Steering Committee 📰 Sharing what Switzerland's food innovation ecosystem has to offer in lots of Swiss and international publications 💰 Watching the subscriber list for our Investor Deal Flow grow and hearing that it has already helped many Valley partners get a big step closer to securing the funds their need to scale. As we rush to finish the final few tasks on our pre-summer to-do list, we wanted to say a big THANK YOU to each and every one of you who has worked alongside this year. 🙏 We wish you all a happy and relaxing summer break and look forward to reconnecting on the other side! ☀️ P.s. Bayer and Valley partner ADM extend their regenerative agriculture collaboration in Europe 🌱👩🌾🇪🇺 🔍 Last year ADM and Bayer embarked on a feasibility study to evaluate the impact of regenerative agriculture practices in curbing carbon emissions, increasing biodiversity and improving soil health across approximately 9,000 hectares of farmland. 📉The project showed that carbon emissions from those hectares relying on at least one regenerative agricultural practice were 15% lower than those of conventional farms and that reductions could be up to 40% for farmers comprehensively adopting regenerative agriculture practices. 👏 The programme will now be expanded into a broader range of crops such as corn, wheat and barley, and geographically across Eastern Europe. Farmers will be provided with financial and technical support to implement qualifying regenerative agriculture practices. So what did we get up to at our final After Hours event before the summer break? 👇 This time, the Valley explored innovations in primary food production as we were welcomed by our co-hosts, Valley partners Agroscope and the Etat de Fribourg - Staat Freiburg, at Grangeneuve, Fribourg's inspiring agricultural centre of excellence. 🔍 In the distance, we could see the construction site that will become Agroscope's new research campus in 2026. Fabian Wahl gave us a sneak peek of what's in store and shared their plans for a living lab canteen focused on behavioural science. 💡 Pascal Toffel took us on a fascinating journey through the food pyramid 🏛 Jerry Krattiger presented the Canton's key initiatives and focus on FoodTech and explained the interplay with federal, cantonal and municipal policies. Half of the group then took a tour of the centre's high tech experimental milking cow farm, while other colleagues took a deep dive into the technology on site. The event drew to a close with some networking over a delicious Fourchette Verte and Terroir Fribourg apero 😋 Thanks to Fabian Wahl, Jerry Krattiger, Pascal Toffel and Thomas Rime for giving us a taster of your world and to all the ecosystem players who joined us! 🙏 #Switzerland #Fribourg #Research #PublicPolicy #Innovation Eliana Zamprogna Marie-France Tschudin Christoph Hartmann Natacha Nagornova Katarzyna Winek, MBA Marie-France Watson, CED, DES Maëlle Bydlon

Every year, Switzerland produces 2.8 million tonnes of food waste - but actors across the value chain are actively seeking new solutions to tackle this issue👇 Last Friday, 150+ colleagues from Switzerland's food waste reduction community came together at United Against Waste Schweiz's Fokus Food Save 2024. 🤩 The event featured contributions from many Valley partners and friends, while also shining a spotlight on some new Swiss innovators: 💡 Christine Schäfer from GDI Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute explained why changes in consumer behaviour needs to be driven on both an individual and systemic level. 🎯 Dominik Flammer reminded us that to achieve our goals, we need to consciously focus our food reduction efforts. 🚀 Startups GoNiña, Circunis, ProKeSo Import GmbH, FOODOO Foods inspired us with their innovations. 🎤 In the breakout sessions, Prof. Dr. Mirjam Hauser, Stefanie Maeder, Catherine Cunin and Kurt Wick explored what's driving consumer decisions, the huge potential of side streams and the challenges around new product development. We look forward to hearing more about joint projects as partners across our ecosystem continue to team up to accelerate our progress in this important area 🚀 #foodwaste #foodsave #Switzerland #sdg123 #community #collaboration Markus Hurschler
